CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Faith Pavlos, a junior at Luther College majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology, has embarked on a transformative journey as a student-athlete in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C).
Through her experiences, she has evolved into a resilient leader, a woman of faith, and a dedicated teammate, all while embracing the true essence of success.
For Pavlos, success isn't just about wins and stats; it's about how she shows up for her team and her community.
Leadership Redefined
Over the past two seasons, Pavlos faced a challenge in her role on the court not aligning with her initial expectations. Instead of letting this define her experience, she embraced the opportunity to lead in a unique way.
Pavlos learned the importance of bringing energy, encouragement, and consistency to every practice, locker room session, and game.
"My role on the court has looked different than I imagined, but instead of letting that define my experience, I've leaned into the opportunity to lead in a unique way," said Pavlos. "Leadership isn't about starting spots, it's about how you make people feel, and how you show up when no one is watching."
This challenge taught her that leadership isn't about being in the spotlight or scoring the most points. It's about making others feel valued and supported, and showing up when no one is watching.
By embracing this mindset, Pavlos has become stronger, more selfless, and more rooted in her own journey and purpose.
Those Who Inspire Us
Throughout her journey, Pavlos has felt the overwhelming support of her professors, coaches, teammates, and the entire A-R-C community.
One particular moment that stands out is the last game on their home court the previous season.
"It was a celebration of every person who has been part of our journey, reminding me that we are stronger together," Pavlos recalled.
In addition to her team's support, Pavlos has felt the genuine care and encouragement of her professors. Their presence at games and their inquiries about the team's well-being have shown her that they truly care beyond the classroom.
On the athletic side, her coaches have been understanding and flexible when it comes to the demands of college classes.
Pavlos appreciates their emphasis on the well-being of the players, creating a space where they can be honest and supported.
"It's not just about being a basketball player, but rather building a space where we can be honest and supported," Pavlos expressed. "We truly look out for each other, and that kind of community is something I will be forever thankful for."
A Legacy of Kindness
As Pavlos continues her journey, she hopes to leave behind a legacy of kindness and encouragement. She lives by the quote, "Leave it better than you found it."
Whether through a kind word or consistent hard work, she wants to be remembered for how she made others feel, and she hopes to create a culture where people feel seen, valued, and safe to be themselves.
Pavlos' dream is to be part of a team that pushes each other to grow not just as athletes but as individuals.
Her message to a broader audience is one of empowerment and self-worth. She emphasizes that self-worth and impact are not measured by minutes played or points scored, but by the person one chooses to be every day.
Pavlos shares a quote that has resonated with her: "What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."
Through her journey as a student-athlete, Pavlos has learned the importance of making a positive impact and being a source of inspiration for others.
Her story serves as a reminder that success is not solely defined by achievements, but by the love, support, and encouragement one brings to their team and community.
