MUSCATINE, Iowa -- For the 11th time in program history and first since 2017, the Luther College Norse are crowned the men's golf champions of the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C). Luther bested the field by 21 strokes, finishing with a three-round total of 902.

Luther went 1-2-3 as they led the field with three All-Conference honorees. Ben Phipps, posting a 54-hole total of 221 (+8) claimed medalist honors after defeating teammate Jay Fjelstul (+8, 221) in a sudden-death playoff. Haakon Rustad (+11, 224)  earned bronze by virtue of a card-back tie-breaker. Phipps recorded the low round of the championship, firing a 3-under par 68 in the final round, propelling himself to the top of the leaderboard. Fjelstul was the only other player to conclude a round under par, shooting a 1-under 70 in the final round.

Along with his low medalist honors, Phipps becomes the sixth Norse student-athlete to be named the Conference’s Golfer of the Year – joining Gene Sella (1977), Robert Cassidy (1983), Magnus Hellmark (1995, 1996, 1997), Dean Wilson (1999), Scott Theriault (2000), and Andrew Peter (2013).

The Norse recorded the tournament’s low score as a team in the final round, shotting 292, and the only team to record two rounds under 300. Luther’s victory earned them the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships May 10-13 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

For the 11th time in his career, Luther College head coach Scott Fjelstul was voted American Rivers Conference Coach of the Year.
