Nebraska Wesleyan Crowned 2021 A-R-C Men's Golf Champions; Loras' Peiser Earns Medalist Honors

IOWA CITY, Iowa - For the third consecutive time, minus the canceled 2020 championships, the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves are crowned the men's golf champions of the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C). Jacob Peiser of Loras College put the finishing touches on four rounds of play to earn A-R-C medalist and Most Valuable Golfer honors. 

Nebraska Wesleyan led the field with four All-Conference honors, led by defending individual champion Alex Kubik (78-71-74-70-293), who finished second. Following right behind Kubik, in third, was Grant Johnson who was four strokes behind second place (77-70-74-76-297). In fifth place was Christian Hall with a 307 for the tournament (73-73-76-85). Rounding out NWU's All-Conference honorees was Connor Vandewege who finished tied for 10th (81-74-81-77-313). Kubik and Johnson both shot the low round in this year's championship at 70, Johnson in the second round and Kubik in the final round. The Prairie Wolves recorded the tournament's low score as a team in the second round, shooting 288, and the only team to record two rounds under 300.

Peiser becomes the fifth Duhawk in program history to win the individual title and be named the Conference's MVP. Joining Sam Herrman (2012), Pete Weber (2015), Tim Davis (1998), and Tom Farrell (1998). The senior shot a 290 this weekend (71-76-72-71), while shooting the second-lowest round this afternoon. The Duhawks finished second as a team this year behind the tournament's second-lowest round of the tournament to open the championships (296), improving on their seventh place finish in 2019. As a team, Loras finished +81 (296-318-305-314-1233). 

The University of Dubuque and Central College tied for third after battling each other for the third-place position all tournament long, both teams shooting 1256 (+104) on the weekend. 

The Spartans (304-322-302-328, +124) picked up two All-Conference medal, led by senior Jordan Elliot (72-81-72-84-309, +21) finishing sixth. Tied for 10th place was senior Garvin Paper to round out the All-Conference accolades for Dubuque. 

Freshman Harold Dobernecker, the most recent Men's Golf Player of the Week, picked up the sole All-Conference honors for the Dutch. He shot a 309 (78-75-75-81, +21) finishing tied for 6th, but earning seventh place medal utilizing the card-back tie-breaker. 

Finishing in sixth place was the Luther Norse (1261, +109) who were led by two All-Conference honorees. Ireland native Ben Phipps collected the fourth place medal for the Norse (73-74-74-79-300, +12). Freshman Jay Fjelstul (74-83-76-76-309, +21) garnered the sixth-place medal after winning the card-back over two other golfers that also shot a 309. 

Senior Ryan Ruzek of Buena Vista University picked up the sole All-Conference honor for the Beavers in ninth place (77-78-78-78-311, +23).

Rounding out the rest of the team standings was Wartburg in sixth (1272, +120), Buena Vista in seventh (1296, +144), Coe in eighth (1354, +202), and Simpson in ninth (1433, +281).
