CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The 2021 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Cheer and Dance Invitational will take place Sunday, March 28 in Dubuque, Iowa. Loras College will host the fourth annual conference event inside the Athletic Wellness Center (AWC) with competition beginning at 2:00 pm.
This year's event will feature six divisions: Dance (3 categories: Hip-hop, Jazz, Pom), Cheer (3 categories: Cheer-All Women, Cheer-Stunt Group, Game Day).
Out of the nine conference institutions, six currently have competitive cheer teams and five sponsor dance. A-R-C institutions with competitive cheer include; Buena Vista, Central, Dubuque, Loras, Nebraska Wesleyan, and Wartburg. Institutions sponsoring dance include; Buena Vista, Central, Nebraska Wesleyan, Simpson, and Wartburg.
At last year's invitational, Nebraska Wesleyan left Dubuque with three first-place finishes. The Prairie Wolves earned first-place finishes in hip-hop and jazz on the dance side and a first-place finish with their Cheer-game day routine. They followed up their three first-place finishes with a second place finish in the pom category. Wartburg took home two first-place finishes on the cheer side in Cheer - All-Women and group stunt. After a 2020 second-place finish in Poms, the Simpson Storm took the top prize in it last year. The Storm also collected second-place finishes in hip-hop and jazz. The hosts from the University of Dubuque collected two second-place finishes (Cheer - All-Women and Group Stunt), while the Central Dutch squad took a second place finish in the Game Day Division category.
