NWU's Reid Named A-R-C Male Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference announced that Loras College wrestler Guy Patron Jr. (Harvey, La./Jesuit) and Luther College women’s basketball player Laura Hamilton (Minnetonka, Minn./Chanhassen) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 26, 2020. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, and wrestling.

Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week14087
Laura Hamilton, Luther College
Sr., G, Minnetonka, Minn./Chanhassen
  • Luther went 2-0 last week with wins over Dubuque and Loras, scoring a combined 34 points, 11 steals, and 14 rebounds.
  • The senior eclipsed 1,000 points in her Luther career in the 77-62 wins over Dubuque.
  • The Norse swept the regular season series with Loras, taking down the Duhawks 76-66 on the road, snapping the Loras’ 10-game win streak.
  • Hamilton had a career night against the Duhawks with a double-double, including a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds, along with four steals, and shooting 69% from the field.
  • The Minnetonka, Minn. native now sits on top of the list for Luther women’s basketball career assists leaders with 362 and counting.
  • The Norse end the week in a four-way tie for first in the A-R-C with a 7-2 record.
  • This is Hamilton’s third career Player of the Week honor (1/27/20, 12/15/19, 12/17/17).
 
Male Athlete of the Week – Wrestling – Wrestler of the Week14159
Guy Patron Jr., Loras College
Sr., 197lbs., Harvey, La./Jesuit
  • Patron won both matches, by way of pin, that he competed in against No. 5 Coe and No. 17 Luther at the A-R-C Duals in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, January 25.
  • His first win of the day came against Luther’s Donovan Corn, pinning him in the third period, helping the Duhawks shutout the Norse 46-0.
  • Patron’s day came to an end on a high note when he pinned Coe’s Taylor Mehmen, who was ranked No. 1/1, in the first period.
  • The senior improves to 15-0 on the season, and the Duhawks stay perfect in conference duals (6-0).
  • This is Patron Jr.’s fourth career Wrestler of the Week honor (1/27/20, 1/21/19, 1/14/18, 11/6/16).
 
Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week14160
Mitch Burger, University of Dubuque
Jr., G, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier
  • The junior guard helped guide the Spartans to a 2-0 week with wins over Luther (75-69) and Simpson (93-83), and Burger dropped 43 points on the week.
  • In the win against Luther, Burger dropped 29 points on the Norse while shooting 67% (8-of-12) from the field.
  • On Saturday against the Storm, the junior scored 14 points while dishing out five assists in the game.
  • This is Burger’s first career Player of the Week honor.
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field - Field – Performer of the Week14161
Drake Lewis, Central College
So., Lathrop, Mo./Lathrop
  • The Dutch competed at the Prairie Wolf Invitational on Friday, hosted by NWU.
  • In a high jump field of 16 competitors, Lewis finished in second place with a cleared height of 6 feet, 9 inches.
  • Lewis was the top Division III finisher and is currently No. 5 in all of NCAA Division III for the high jump.
  • This is the first career Indoor Field Performer of the Week accolade for Lewis.
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field - Track – Performer of the Week14162
Josh Smith, Loras College
So., Dolton, Ill./Marian Catholic
  • The Duhawks competed at the St. Ambrose University Invitational on Saturday, January 25.
  • Smith won two events for the No. 4-ranked Loras.
  • The sophomore won the 60-meter dash, while setting a new school record with a time of 6.87 seconds.
  • His 60-meter dash time is currently the fifth-fastest time in NCAA Division III.
  • The Dolton, Ill. native also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.26, which sits second best in school history and fourth among Division III.
  • This is Smith’s first career Indoor Track Performer of the Week honor.
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field - Field – Performer of the Week14166
Alyssa Skrove, University of Dubuque
Sr., Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine
  • The Spartans competed at the Jack Jennett Open in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
  • Skrove won the triple jump among DI competitors with a mark of 37 feet and 1 inch (11.30m).
  • She set a new University of Dubuque school record in the long jump and was the top DIII finisher with 17 feet and 11.75 inches (5.48m), for a fourth-place overall finish.
  • The senior now leads the American Rivers Conference in both the long jump and the triple jump.
  • This is Skrove’s third Indoor Field Performer of the Week honor (1/27/20, 2/18/19, 1/22/17).
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field - Track – Performer of the Week14163
Terrianna Black, Loras College
Sr., Milwaukee, Wis./Messmer
  • Terrianna Black had a strong start at the St. Ambrose Invite Saturday, clocking a personal-best and Division III leading time of 7.61 seconds.
  • The 60-meter dash sits second best in Loras program history.
  • She followed up with a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash (26.09) which ranks 8th in Division III.
  • Her performances helped the No. 9-ranked Duhawks to a first place overall finish out of 16 teams with a team score of 159 points, St. Ambrose (NAIA) finished second with 104 points.
  • This is the senior’s second career Indoor Track Performer of the Week accolade (1/27/20, 2/18/19).
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving – Performer of the Week14165
Nolan Reid, Nebraska Wesleyan University
Jr., Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southwest
  • The NWU swim team went 2-1 on the weekend with two wins over Loras.
  • Reid won the 100 Butterfly with a time of 54.74.
  • He was on the winning Relay teams in the 200 Free and 400 Free.
  • Placed second in the 100 Free and third in the 50 Free.
  • This is Reid’s second career Performer of the Week honor (1/27/20, 10/8/18).
 
Women’s Swimming & Diving – Performer of the Week12549
Makenzie Delgado, Nebraska Wesleyan University
So., Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East
  • The Prairie Wolves went 3-0 on the weekend with two wins over Loras and a win over Midland (Neb.).
  • Delgado won the 1000 Free and 100 Free on Friday night.
  • She turned around on Saturday and won the 200 Free and the 500 Free.
  • The sophomore was on the winning 200 Medley Relay team that set a new pool record (1:54.93).
  • She was also on the winning 400 Free Relay team.
  • This is Delgado’s fourth career Performer of the Week and third this season (1/27/20, 11/18/19, 11/4/19, 10/22/18).
