Coe's Baldwin Named A-R-C Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference announced that Loras College women’s track and field athlete Gabrielle Noland (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and Nebraska Wesleyan University men’s basketball player Nate Schimonitz (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 19, 2020. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, men’s swimming & diving, and wrestling.
 
Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Indoor Track & Field - Track – Performer of the Week14144
Gabrielle Noland, Loras College
Sr., Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic
  • Noland helped guide the Duhawks to a Solomon Butler Classic win with 221 points.
  • The senior sprinter owns the top spot in the NCAA Division III 200-meter dash, after winning with a time of 25.06 seconds.
  • The Rockford, Ill. native set a new facility record in the 55-meter dash at the Solomon Butler Classic with a time of 7.10 seconds.
  • Her time converted to the NCAA 60-meter dash for national marks currently sits as the top-time in NCAA Division III.
  • The senior also participated in the 4x400-meter relay team that won the event with a time of 4:07.78.  
  • Noland was named the league’s Most Valuable Indoor Track Performer in 2018 and 2019.
  • This is Noland’s ninth career Track Performer of the Week accolade (1/20/20, 2/25/19, 2/4/19, 1/21/19, 12/10/18, 2/25/18, 1/14/18, 12/3/17, 12/4/16).

Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week12802
Nate Schimonitz, Nebraska Wesleyan University

  • Schimonitz dropped 63 points in two games last week as the Prairie Wolves went 2-0 and remain undefeated in conference play (8-0).
  • The Kohawks gave NWU a run for their money, but Schimonitz dropped 31 points with 8 rebounds, while shooting 65% (13-20) from the field, as the Prairie Wolves held on to win 82-76.
  • On the road at Central, the senior scored 32 points on13-of-15 shooting (4-4 from 3-point range) along with 7 assists, as the Prairie Wolves rolled along 115-69.
  • On the week, the Omaha, Neb. native shot 74% from the field, going 26-35 and 7-11 from the 3-point line.
  • Schimonitz leads the A-R-C in points per game at 27.0 ppg.
  • This is the senior’s fourth Player of the Week nod in 2019-20, and ninth of his career (1/20/20, 12/15/19, 11/18/19, 11/11/19, 11/26/18, 11/19/18, 2/25/18, 2/5/17).
 
Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week14140
Kendall Brown, Central College
Sr., F, Moravia, Iowa/Moravia
  • Brown scored 31 points in two A-R-C games last week, while shooting 73.7% from the field and averaging 15.5 points per game.
  • In the Dutch’s 59-46 win at Dubuque, she scored 10 points, while shooting 57% from the field and collected 3 rebounds.
  • The Moravia, Iowa native exploded in Central’s 81-71 win over NWU scoring 21 points, collecting 8 rebounds, and blocking four shots.
  • She currently sits third in NCAA Division III for shooting percentage and is 13th in blocked shots.
  • This is the senior’s first career Player of the Week honor.
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field - Field – Performer of the Week14141
Josh Seymour, Coe College
Sr., Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic
  • Opening the season at The Armory, hosted by Ramapo College, in New York City, Seymour won two field events.
  • The senior won the shot put with toss of 15.76 meters, which was first out of 19 competitors.
  • The throw also broke the Coe school record by .07 meters.
  • He also placed first out of 16 competitors in the weight throw with a mark of 17.04 meters.
  • The weight throw broke Seymour’s personal record and moved him into third place in the Coe record books.
  • This is Seymour’s first career Field Performer of the Week award.
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field - Track – Performer of the Week14143
Patrick Mikel, Loras College
Sr., Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East
  • Returning All-American performer and two-time defending 400-meter dash national champion, Mikel won the 200-meter dash at the Solomon Butler Classic and tied the facility record with a time of 22.25.
  • His time in the 200-meter dash is currently tied for first in the nation.
  • The senior also participated in the 4x400-meter relay team that set a facility record of 3:20.12, which currently sits second in NCAA Division III.
  • His performances helped guide the Duhawks to a first-place finish with 202 points and nine event wins.
  • This is Mikel’s sixth career Track Performer of the Week award (1/20/20, 2/25/19, 2/18/19, 1/28/19, 12/10/18, 2/4/18).
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field - Field – Performer of the Week6983
Dayton Dolincheck, Nebraska Wesleyan University
Sr., Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue West
  • Dolincheck competed at Nebraska’s Graduate Classic and Doane’s Scott Nisely Invite over the weekend.
  • She was fourth in the shot put at 45-4.5, finishing as the highest Division III competitor.
  • Her shot put mark ranks second best in NCAA Division III so far this season.
  • With a toss of 53-3 in the weight throw, Dolincheck finished ninth and was the highest Division III finisher.  
  • Her mark of 53-3 ranks 12th in NCAA Division III.
  • This is the senior’s sixth career Field Performer of the Week honor (1/20/20, 2/4/19, 1/28/19, 1/21/19, 1/14/19, 1/21/18).
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving – Performer of the Week14142
Luke Baldwin, Coe College
Fr., Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit
  • Baldwin competed at the Grinnell College Invitational January 17 and 18 where the Kohawks finished fifth out of six competing teams.
  • He finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.54.
  • The Parker, Colo. native also was second in the 200 Breaststroke (2:12.41).
  • His time at Grinnell was wrapped up with his third second-place finish of the weekend in the 400 IM (4:18.91).
  • This is the freshman’s first career Performer of the Week nod.
 
Wrestling – Wrestler of the Week14145
Brady Vogel, Loras College
Fr., 184lbs., Cherryvale, Kan./Chanute
  • Vogel scored four wins for the No. 3-ranked Duhawks this last week.
  • In the A-R-C dual of the week, Vogel wrestled up a class in the 41-9 win against No. 20-Central and pinned his opponent, Tanner Zimmerman, at 2:48.
  • Vogel won the 184 lbs. championship at the Cliff Keen/Mike Duroe Invitational hosted by Cornell College, defeating Cornell’s Bryce Oveson 8-7.
  • The Cherryvale, Kan. native advanced to the championship with two pins – 2:03 over Cronell’s Robert Noga and 0:50 over teammate Rochard Hunter.
  • He also recorded a major decision (17-5) over Augustana’s Tristan Richardson.
  • This is the freshman’s first career Wrestler of the Week honor.
