Dubuque, Central & Simpson Capture Cheer & Dance Titles A-R-C Invitational

Pella, Iowa -- The Dance and Cheer teams from the American Rivers Conference endured snowy travel to arrive at the P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium for the second annual A-R-C Competitive Dance and Cheer Invitational. The champions in the Dance division were Simpson College and in both Hip-Hop and Jazz, and Central College in Poms. The University of Dubuque claimed the Cheer Routine-Stunt and 5-Person Stunt categories.

The competition was razor-thin in most of the categories. Dubuque's win in the Cheer Routine-Stunt was just over a point better (26.83) than second-place Wartburg College (25.66). Dubuque had a slightly more comfortable margin in the 5-Person Stunt with a 40-37.16 win over Wartburg.

Simpson's win in the Hip-Hop competition was just one point over second-place Central, 92-91. Simpson's Jazz margin was four points over Central, 94-90. Third-place Nebraska Wesleyan was just one point out of second. Central took the first-place trophy in Poms with a score of 95.66, four points better than runner-up Simpson.

As the sole entry in the Cheer Routine Non-Stunt category, Nebraska Wesleyan University was awarded a Performance of Merit plaque. The Prairie Wolves scored 25.16 points from the judges. There also was only one entry in the Coed Cheer-Stunt category where Simpson scored 21.5 points for a Performance of Merit plaque.
