Storm Lake, Iowa -- The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) held its inaugural Competitive Cheer and Dance Invitational Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Buena Vista University. In the Dance division, Simpson earned first-place in the Hip-hop category and Jazz category, while Wartburg took home first-place in the Pom category. The University of Dubuque claimed the Cheer Routine-Stunt title and Wartburg "#2" was crowned champion of the 5-Person Stunt Showcase.
In the Dance division, Simpson claimed the Hip-hop category title with a score of 64 points and Central scored 63 points to take second-place. The Jazz category was also won by Simpson, who scored 63.33 points and in second-place with 62.17 points was Central. Taking first-place in the Pom category was Wartburg, scoring 63.5 points. Simpson was second in the Pom category with 62.67 points.
In the Cheer Routine-Stunt category, Dubuque scored 54.83 points in winning the title, while Simpson was second with a score of 53.5. With a score of 58 Wartburg "#2" earned first-place in the 5-Person Stunt Showcase and Wartburg "#1" scored a 56.8 to earn second.
As the sole entry in the Cheer Routine Non-Stunt category, Nebraska Wesleyan University was awarded a Performance of Merit plaque. The Prairie Wolves earned a score of 51.83 in the category.
