Day One Leaderboard Scores
IOWA CITY, Iowa --- The University of Dubuque had all five players shoot under 80 and leads by nine strokes after 18 holes at the 2014 Iowa Conference Men's Golf Championships.
As a team, the Spartans posted a 7-over-par 295 in breezy conditions at Finkbine Golf Course. Simpson posted a 304 and sits second overall, one stroke ahead of third-place Luther (305) and four up on fourth-place Wartburg (308). Central (313) is fifth, two strokes ahead of Coe (315), while Loras (331) and Buena Vista (341) round out the team scores.
Dubuque's
Eric Wolfe leads the medalist chase by two strokes over Wartburg's
Ryan Shields. Wolfe eagled the par-5 sixth hole and started with three straight birdies on the back nine en route to a 2-under-par 70. Shields posted four birdies and was looking to finish under par before a double bogey on the 18th hole to finish at even-par.
Dubuque's
Josh Schuberg is third after a 73 while Coe's
Tyler Gunderson, Dubuque's
Martin Odegard and Simpson's
Andy Hutchins and
Trent Lindenman fired 74s. Luther's
Tobias Kohl sits eighth at 75 and Luther's
Elliot Horst and
Andrew Peter and Central's
Desmond Stoll round out the top-10 in a 3-way for ninth at 76.
The top three teams following Friday's first round --- Dubuque, Simpson and Luther --- will tee off first Saturday in a wave beginning at 11 a.m. The next three schools in the standings --- Wartburg, Central and Coe --- will tee off beginning at 11:45 a.m. The final wave --- Loras and Buena Vista --- will go off the No. 1 tee at 12:30 p.m.
