Central Extends Lead at Iowa Conference Men's Golf Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --- Led by five rounds at 76 or better, Central College extended its overall lead in the 2013 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Men's Golf Championships after firing a 291 Saturday at Elmcrest Country Club. The Dutch take a 27-stroke lead over Luther into Sunday's final round.

Behind the Dutch, only ten strokes separate teams two through five. Luther is second at 944 followed by Dubuque (947), Wartburg (953) and Simpson (954). Luther, Dubuque and Wartburg each have two players in the top 11, while all five of SImpson's players are in the top 18.

Luther's Andrew Peter, who shared the 36-hole lead with Central's Justin Livingston, fired a 2-over 72 and is alone atop the medalist standings at 11-over 225. Livingston is one shot back at 226 after a 73. Central's Desmond Stoll fired a 1-over 71 for Central's top round of the day and sits in third place at 228.

The round of the day was carded by Dubuque's Martin Odegard with a 68. He had five birdies on the day, including a closing four holes where he went birdie-birdie-par-birdie. Odegard sits fourth with a 229 total.

Positions five through ten are all separated by one stroke each with Wartburg's Carson Barron in fifth at 231 followed by Central's David Watson (232) in sixth, Dubuque's Eric Wolfe (233) in seventh, Luther's Tobias Kohl (234) in eighth, Central's Jared Nepomuceno (235) in ninth and Wartburg's Jeremy Carper and Simpson's Trent Lindenman (both 236) in a tie for tenth.

The championship concludes Sunday with 18 holes at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, site of last weekend's first and second rounds. Teams will go off in two waves beginning at 10:10 a.m. and will compete in foursomes. Simpson, Buena Vista, Loras and Coe will make up the first wave, followed by a wave consisting of players from Central, Luther, Dubuque and Wartburg at approximately 11 a.m.
