Performers of the Week Announced in Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving, and Men's and Women's Wrestling

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Luther College women’s basketball student-athlete Kailey Jones and Wartburg College men’s basketball student-athlete Marshun Williams have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, November 24, 2024. The A-R-C weekly awards are nominated and voted on by the league’s sports information departments. The conference office then selects the female and male athletes of the week based upon sport performers of the week.

Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Basketball Player of the Week – KAILEY JONES, Luther College

Jones posted two double-doubles this past week to increase her streak to four straight games. On the 2-0 week, the forward for the Norse averaged 23.5 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game. Against the North Central Rams, she recorded 25 points and 10 rebounds in the 84-54 victory. In the second game of the week, the Norse defeated Saint Mary’s 90-59 and Jones recorded 22 points and 15 rebounds.

Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Basketball Player of the Week – MARSHUN WILLIAMS, Wartburg College

Williams helped lead Wartburg to a 2-0 week while averaging 33.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game. The fifth year forward scored a career-high 37 points against Grinnell. Williams now has four consecutive games where he has scored 30 or more points. He currently leads all Division III scorers, averaging 30.2 points per game.

Men’s Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week – KAMEN RANGELOV, Coe College

Rangelov rewrote the Coe record books over the weekend at the Luther College Invite as he registered three new school records. On Friday, Rangelov set a new school record in the 200-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle, registering times of 2:05.98 and 21.48 respectively. He followed up on Saturday with another new school record in the 100-yard breaststroke as he finished with a time of 57.67 while bettering his 50-yard freestyle record with a time of 21.35.


Women’s Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week – LILLY BRENNAN, Nebraska Wesleyan University

Brennan broke two individual school records, and two relay school records this past weekend at the Phoenix Invitational. In the 100-yard backstroke, Brennan set a new school record finishing in 59.19. Additionally, Brennan set a new school record in the 200-yard backstroke as she finished with a time of 2:10.51. As a member of the 200-yard medley relay team, she helped the P-Wolves set a school-record time of 1:48.07. In the 400-medley relay, her team clocked a record time of 3:59.99.


Men’s Wrestler of the Week – JARED VOSS, Coe College

Voss went 4-0 en route to the individual title in the 184-pound bracket at Coe’s annual invite. In his first match, he won by fall (4:02) over Cohan Torres of Grand View. In Voss’ next match, he picked up a major decision (10-2) over Benicio Martinez of Millikin. In the semifinal match against Tate Crowell of Millikin, Voss picked up his second fall of the day in 1:35. In the championship match, Voss defeated nationally ranked Jessey Colas of North Iowa Area Community College by 7-6 decision to earn the title.


 Women’s Wrestler of the Week – KEELEY KEHRLI, Simpson College

Kehrli went undefeated at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s 8-women battles to win her first tournament title of the season. Competing at the 160lb weight class, Kehrli started the tournament with a fall over Maddie Hall of Wisconsin-Stevens Point by fall (1:15). She advanced to the semifinal where she defeated Leah Schwenker of Wisconsin-Oshkosh by fall (0:29). In the championship match, Kehrli defeated teammate, Breanna Wier by tech fall (11-0) to claim the individual title.


Weekly Report

Basketball season remains in full swing for A-R-C teams. On the men’s side, Loras and Wartburg only have one loss this season. On the women’s side, Luther and Wartburg remain undefeated in the early part of their season. The first conference games will take place on Tuesday with Luther hosting Wartburg, Loras hosting Coe, and Simpson hosting Central.

After earning a first-round bye in the NCAA Division III Football Championships, the Wartburg College Knights will take the field on Saturday against Wisconsin-Platteville for second round action.

The A-R-C partnered with FanWord earlier this summer, an AI storytelling platform, and will be using the platform throughout the academic year to enhance the storytelling of student-athletes, alumni, coaches, and many others.
