CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The coaches have selected the 2024 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Men's Soccer postseason award selections. These student-athletes have distinguished themselves through a challenging conference regular season schedule.
Coaches from the conference nominated and selected this year's all-conference team, recognizing 20 field players and two goalies. In addition to honoring the all-conference team, the release also recognizes Offensive Most Valuable Performer, Defensive Most Valuable Performer, Rookie of the Year, and Coaching Staff of the Year.

The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced today that Luther College's
Javier Pastor Valls has been selected Men's Soccer Offensive Most Valuable Performer for the 2024 season. Luther's
Hernan Manzanet has been named Men's Soccer Defensive Most Valuable Performer and
Nels Mortenson of Luther has been named the inaugural Rookie of the Year. Luther head coach
Chris Garcia-Prats and his staff were voted American Rivers Conference Coaching Staff of the Year. In addition to the major awards, the conference announced the 2024 All-Conference team.

Jack Morrison add American Rivers Conference Coaching Staff of the Year to their 2024 accolades. Garcia-Prats, in his 17th season leading the charge, guided the Norse to their tenth regular season title after finishing 6-1-1 in the conference regular season schedule. This is the fourth Coaching Staff of the Year honor for the Norse with Garcia-Prats at the helm (2011, 2017, 2018, 2024) and the program's eighth overall honor (1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2011, 2017, 2018, 2024). Luther led the league in scoring average (3.250), shots (152), and margin (2.12) this conference regular season.

Pastor Valls is earning his first Offensive MVP honor as well as a spot on the 22-member all-conference squad for the second time in his career. The Spain native becomes the third player to receive Offensive MVP honors for the Norse, joining Aidan O'Driscoll (2018) and Marcos Vila (2020, 2022). Playing 596 minutes throughout eight conference matches, Pastor Valls recorded 21 points on nine goals and three assists. He averaged 2.63 points per conference game this fall.
Manzanet becomes the fourth player to receive Defensive MVP honors for the Norse, joining Myles Norville (2016), Ahmed Osman (2017), and Luke VonEschen (2018). Manzent was seen on the field 633 minutes throughout conference action this fall. As a defender, he found the back of the net on one occasion and was responsible for four assists. Manzanet is earning his third all-conference honor of his career.
Prior to the MVP award being split to recognize an offensive and defensive standout in 2013, Luther had seven players name conference MVP.
Mortenson becomes the inaugural Rookie of the Year for men's soccer in the A-R-C. As a midfielder, he was in action 567 minutes over eight conference matches this fall. He recorded one goal and one assist. Additionally, he was voted onto the all-conference team by the coaches.
Joining Pastor Valls, Manzanet, and Mortenson on the all-conference squad for the Norse is
Nico Cedno,
Raul Ferrandez, and
Jose Gimenez. Cedno, a midfielder, started all eight conference matches this fall, playing 525 minutes. He picked up one goal and four assists, for six total points this season. He recorded one game-winning goal. Ferrandez, a defender, was on the pitch for seven conference matches this season where he recorded four goals and three assists, for 11 total points, the second best for the Norse. He recorded one game-winning goal. Gimenez earns all-conference as a key performer to the Luther defense this season that allowed nine goals over the eight conference contests.
The Wartburg Knights had six all-conference performers this season after a runner-up regular season finish.
Flori Gembo,
Lwings Kabula,
Carson Kay,
Sam McDevitt,
Aidan Mott, and
Curtis Ratzer led the Knights this season and had standout performances to earn all-conference accolades. Ratzer is earning his second career all-conference nod. Gembo, Kabula, Kay, McDevitt, and Mott are all earning this honor for the first time in their careers.
Gembo started seven conference contests as a freshman this season as a midfielder. He was responsible for one goal and four assists this season for a total of six points. Kabula, a forward, was in action 428 minutes of the Knights conference schedule this fall, starting all eight matches. He scored three goals this fall, with eight shots on goal recorded. He recorded two game-winning goals. Kay was on the pitch for 694 minutes this fall as a defender. He scored three goals and added an assist. McDevitt, a midfielder for the Knights, was in action 672 minutes grabbing one assist. Mott led the way for the Knights this season on the offensive front with eight points recorded, three goals and two assists. He was responsible for one game-winning goal. Ratzer, a defender, led a strong Wartburg defense that only allowed five goals over eight conference matches this fall. Ratzer scored one goal and was one-for-one on penalty kicks.
The Loras College Duhawks were represented by
Bryan Basinger,
Cole Bridson,
Dani Galiana Torres, and
Ben Krogman this season with postseason honors. Basinger and Galiana Torres led the way for Loras this season by tallying 11 points. Basinger, a midfielder, found the back of the net four times and added three assists. Basinger had one game-winning goal. Galiana Torres had five goals and one assist in eight games this fall. Galiana Torres was responsible for two game-winning goals. Bridson was on the pitch for 520 minutes this fall where he recorded one goal and two assists for the Duhawks. Krogman in the net started all eight conferences games, playing 706 minutes, allowed six goals, recorded four shutouts, and had 39 saves. His record this season was 5-1-2.
Coe is represented by
Ian Kearney, who is earning his second career all-conference honor. Kearney started all eight conference matches and was on the pitch 631 minutes. He was respoibsle for seven points, three assists and two goals.
Gavin Wooldridge is representing Dubuque this season as he earns his third all-conference honor. Wooldrdidge, a forward, started all eight conference games this fall. He recorded two goals and two assists for a total of six points. One of his goals was registered as a game-winning goal.
Earning his third all-conference honor for the Storm is
Ranaldo Ordaz-Zambrano. He started all eight conference contests this fall, recording 557 minutes on the pitch. He found the back of the net on two occasions and grabbed an assist, to total five points.
Nebraska Wesleyan is represented by
Owen Glogowski,
Samuel Schendt, and
Zachary Weis this season. Schendt led the way for the P-Wolves with eight points totaled this fall off two goals and four assists. He recorded one game-winning goal. Glogowski started six conference games this fall where he went one-for-one in penalty kicks and grabbed a goal. Weis was the only goalkeeper this conference season for Nebraska Wesleyan. He allowed nine goals, recorded four shutouts, and had 45 saves. He recorded a 5-3-0 record in the net.
About the American Rivers Conference
The Conference dates back to December 8, 1922, when representatives from 12 colleges got together and formed the "Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Association." Honoring its heritage in Iowa and its expansion outside the state, the American Rivers Conference brand was established on August 9, 2018, to build on the academic and athletic success provided by its legacy, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The A-R-C has nine full-time members: Buena Vista University, Central College, Coe College, University of Dubuque, Loras College, Luther College, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Simpson College, and Wartburg College.
