Sara Faber (Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake) and Nebraska Wesleyan men’s basketball player
Peter Lash (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 14, 2024.
Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Sara Faber, Wartburg College
Sr., G, Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake
- Faber and the No. 12/12 Wartburg Knights picked up a conference win over Buena Vista (80-61) on Sunday.
- Faber led all scorers with a career high of 28 points while shooting 40% from the field.
- Additionally, the senior had five steals, three assists, and two rebounds.
- The Knights improved to 14-2 overall and remain a perfect 7-0 in A-R-C play.
- Wartburg and Faber will cross the halfway point of the conference season this week when they host Coe College on Wednesday and travel to Central on Saturday.
- Faber was the A-R-C MVP a season ago.
- This marks her first-career Player of the Week honor.
Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week

- Lash and the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves picked up two important conference wins this week over Central (88-82) and Coe (65-63).
- Against the Dutch, the junior shot 63% (12-for-19) from the field and 100% (8-for-8) for 34 points.
- He grabbed nine rebounds, two assists, and one steal in the first victory.
- Handing (RV) Coe their first conference loss of the season, Lash recorded a double-double.
- He recorded 18 points, 16 rebounds, six steals, and two assists over the Kohawks.
- Nebraska Wesleyan has now won nine straight games with a 14-2 overall record and 5-2 in league action.
- The Prairie Wolves will be back on the court Wednesday and Saturday when they host Buena Vista and Luther.
- Lash played all 40 minutes of action in both contests this week.
- He has earned first-team all conference back-to-back seasons.
- The Charlotte, North Carolina native is earning his eighth Player of the Week honor (11/29/21, 12/6/21, 12/20/21, 1/31/22, 1/3/23, 1/23/23, 2/13/23, 1/15/24).

The Conference dates back to December 8, 1922, when representatives from 12 colleges got together and formed the "Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Association." Honoring its heritage in Iowa and its expansion outside the state, the American Rivers Conference brand was established on August 9, 2018, to build on the academic and athletic success provided by its legacy, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
