Loras Men and Women Crowned American Rivers Conference Indoor Track & Field Champions for Second Straight Year

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Loras College men and women capture team titles at the 2023 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Indoor Track & Field Championships.
 
With a final point total of 211.5 team points, the women of Loras College claimed the second-straight indoor championship title. This is also the second time in program history they have taken home the crown. Loras had 14 All-Conference performers, including three relay teams. The Duhawks bested second-place Wartburg by just 4.5 points. The team title earned Loras Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year honors, led by head coach Matt Jones.
 
Women’s Most Valuable Performer honors went to Loras’ Grace Alley and Marion Edwards. Alley picked up Most Valuable Field Performer honors after claiming the gold medal in the pentathlon (3,400 points), triple jump (12.10m), and high jump (1.68m). Additionally, Alley earned a fourth-place finish in the long jump (5.36m). Edwards earned Most Valuable Track Performer accolades after claiming two first place finishes and two second place finishes. Edwards claimed the titles in the 200m dash (25.34) and 4x400m relays (3:52.85), while picking up second place finishes in the 60m dash (7.60) and 400m (57.25).
 
On the men’s side, Loras won the team title for the second-straight year and fifth time in program history. The Duhawks compiled 186 total team points. The Duhawks, led by Jones, also earned Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year accolades. Loras had 13 All-Conference Performers, including three relay teams that all placed first.
 
Men’s Most Valuable Performer honors went to Dubuque’s Jaidyn Williams and Cade Collier (Co-Field) and Simpson’s Spencer Moon (Track). Williams earned conference titles in all events he participated in: long jump (7.06m) and triple jump (14.42m). Collier finished with gold medals in the shot put (15.89m) and the weight throw (18.09m). Moon earned Most Valuable Track Performer honors after finishing on top of the podium in the 3,000m (8:19.11) and 5,000m (14:52.62)

Women’s Day 2 Highlights
  • Wartburg’s Lexi Brown broke a facility record in the women’s one mile run, finishing first in 4:57.14.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan’s Bella Hogue set a new conference championship record in the 60m dash, finishing with a time of 7.58.
  • Caitlyn Cox of the Loras Duhawks set a new conference championship record in the weight throw with a mark of 18.77m. This mark was .3 better than the second place finisher.
  • Loras’ Alyssa Pfadenhauer won the 400m dash for the third-consecutive year, finishing with a time of 56.10.
  • Marion Edwards of Loras takes home the 200m title for the second year in a row, finishing on top in 25.34.
  • Wartburg’s JoJo Tyynismaa finished with a time of 8.90 to take home the individual title in the 60m hurdles.
  • In the 800m run, Wartburg’s Lily Campbell finishing on top of the podium, finishing in 2:16.76.
  • In the 3,000-meter run, Wartburg’s Aubrie Fisher ran in a time of 10:13.24 to claim the individual title.
  • After winning the pentathlon yesterday, Grace Alley claimed the gold medal in the triple jump, jumping 12.10m.
  • Alley and Wartburg’s Breya Christopher finished at the top in the high jump with a mark of 1.68m.
  • The Loras 4x800m relay team of Frankie Chaidez, Emily Jackson, Ellie Osterberger, and Elly Burds took home gold medals with a time of 9:28.20.
  • Loras’ Marion Edwards, Harmony Creasy, Stevie Lambe, and Alyssa Pfadenhauer claimed the gold medals in the 4x400m relay to end the championship on top.
 
Men’s Day 2 Highlights
  • Dubuque senior Cade Collier took the men’s weight throw title for the second year in a row with a throw of 18.09.
  • A junior from the University of Dubuque, Jaidyn Williams, claimed the gold medal in the triple jump with a mark of 14.42m.
  • Dubuque’s Jatavion Hawkins claimed first place in the high jump, besting the second-place finisher by .03m. Hawkins finished with a mark of 2.04m.
  • In the heptathlon, Wartburg’s Dalton Closson edged out the second-place finisher from Simpson, Ulysses Patterson by 51 points.
  • There were two new championship records set in the one mile run with Christopher Collet of Wartburg taking home the gold. Collet finished the race in 4:06.75 with Loras’ Wyatt Kelly finishing in second with a time of 4:07.01. These both are facility records as well.
  • Loras’ Josh Smith is now a three-time individual conference champion in the 60m dash, finishing this year with a time of 6.89.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan’s Eli Etherton, who set a new all-time conference record this season, claimed the gold medal in the 60m hurdles finishing with a time of 8.11.
  • Winning the 400m run, Loras’ Matt Kruse stood on top of the podium finishing with a time of 48.32.
  • Mike Jasa of Loras was crowned the champion in the 800m run for the third consecutive year with a time of 1:50.49. This time broke the previous conference championship by just under two seconds.
  • Wartburg’s Derrick Smith made it to the top of the podium, claiming the title in the 200m dash.
  • Simpson’s Spencer Moon broke the facility record while taking home the gold medal in the 3,000m run. Moon finished the race with a time of 8:19.11.
  • The Loras 4x800m relay team consisting of Carter Oberfoell, Chris Guise, Elliot Frideres, and Mike Jasa broke the championship record that was set a season ago, finishing in 7:45.46.
  • In the 4x400m relay, Loras’ Ted Kruse, Matt Marcum, Will Kieffer, and Matt Kruse claimed first place, finishing just .61 seconds ahead of the second place team from Dubuque.
 
Women’s Day 1 Highlights
  • Grace Alley found herself at the top of the podium in the Pentathlon for the second straight year, defending her 2022 title, scoring 3400 total points. 
  • Dubuque’s Emma Seipel claimed first place in the women’s long jump, for the second straight year, jumping 5.49 meters.
  • In women’s shot put, Kaitlyn Wilder of Dubuque set a new conference championship record in her gold medal finish with a toss of 14.71 meters. Wilder is breaking the conference championship record by 0.04 meters, a mark that was set in 2017 by Tanasha Atwater of Dubuque. 
  • In the 5,000-meter run, Shaelyn Hostager of Wartburg grabbed first place, running a 17:52.75.
  • Wartburg went 1-2 in the prelims for the 60-meter hurdles today with JoJo Tyynismaa running a time of 8.93 and Sailor Hinegardner with a 8.98. 
  • Isabella Hogue for the Prairie Wolves had the best time in the prelims for the 60-meter dash crossing the finish line with a time of 7.61. 
  • The distance medley relay title went to Wartburg’s team of Ellie MeyerAricka LambsonHaley Meyer, and Aubrie Fisher who ran it with a time of 11:59.57 to just merely defeat the Loras team. 
  • Dubuque’s Meghan Prohaska found herself at the top of the podium in pole vault as she cleared 3.25 meters.
 
Men’s Day 1 Highlights
  • Through four of the seven events in the heptathlon, Simpson’s Ulysses Patterson leads with 2684 total points with the final three events tomorrow. 
  • The Duhawks’ Raymond Venditti clears 4.51 meters in the pole vault and wins the gold medal. 
  • Simpson’s Spencer Moon claimed the fastest time in the 5,000-meter run, with a time of 14:52.62. 
  • In the 60-meter hurdle prelims, Eli Etherton of Nebraska Wesleyan had the fastest time with 8.19. 
  • Defending champion from Loras, Josh Smith, had the best prelim time in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.85. 
  • Shot put saw a new champion this year and it was Dubuque’s Cade Collier who found himself at the top of the podium with a throw of 15.89 meters. 
  • The long jump gold medal went to Jaidyn Williams of Dubuque following a jump of 7.06 meters. 
  • In the distance medley, the Loras Duhawks’ team of Wyatt Kelly, Easton StackisMike Jasa, and Ryan Harvey set a new facility record with a time of 10:04.45.
