The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced today that Loras College senior forward
Reed Miklavcic (Frankfort, Ky./Frankfort) has been selected as the league’s Offensive MVP and Wartburg College senior goalkeeper
Brennon Woody (Grimes, Iowa/Dallas Center-Grimes) was named Defensive MVP. Loras College first year head coach,
Sam Koenig and assistant
Matt Pucci were voted American Rivers Coaching Staff of the Year. In addition to the major awards, the conference announced the 22-member All-Conference team.
Miklavcic is earning his first Offensive MVP honor as well as a spot on the 22-member All-Conference squad. The Kentucky native becomes the third player to receive Offensive MVP honors for the Duhawks, joining
Tigrio Huerta (2019) and
Kevin Cavers (2013). Additionally, since 2013 Loras has seen three players earn Defensive MVP honors. Prior to the MVP award being split to recognize an offensive and defensive standout in 2013, Loras had six players named conference MVP. Playing 434 minutes throughout eight conference matches, Miklavcic recorded 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Miklavcic was two-for-two on penalty kicks. In the final match of the season, the senior forward scored with just under three minutes remaining to claim the regular season title and earn the top seed in the conference tournament.
Woody becomes the second player to receive Defensive MVP honors for the Knights, joining
Bob Brown (2013). Additionally, the Knights had one offensive MVP in
Dan Nadeau in 2014. Prior to the MVP award being split to recognize an offensive and defensive standout in 2013, Wartburg had one player earn accolades,
Harrison Kibombo-Lugojjo (2004, 2006). Woody had a standout season in goal for the Knights, compiling a 5-1-2 record and playing every minute. The senior recorded six shutouts, facing 80 shots while allowing just three goals. Woody is now a two-time All-Conference performer in addition to being named honorable mention in the Spring 2021 season.
In his first year at the helm of the Loras men’s soccer program, head coach Koenig and assistant Pucci guided the Duhawks to their 15
th league title in program history, with the first coming in 2003. At the conclusion of this year’s conference play, Loras finished with a 6-2-0 league record. Offensively, the Duhawks compiled a scoring average of 2.250 which was second best in the league. The Duhawks netted 18 goals. On the defensive end, Loras only gave up nine goals to end with 1.13 goals against average. This is the ninth time Loras is earning Coaching Staff of the Year honors and first honor for Koenig.
On top of Woody’s MVP honor, the Wartburg Knights had a conference-best six All-Conference performers this season. Joining Woody is senior midfielder,
Paul Devine (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Lewis Central), senior defender
Michael Dunn (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina), first year forward
Alima Mmunga (Iowa City, Iowa/City High), senior defender
Curtis Ratzer (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/John F. Kennedy), and senior forward
Edvin Rizvic (Waterloo, Iowa/Waterloo West). Rizvic is now a two-time All-Conference performer. Ratzer is picking up All-Conference honors after earning honorable mention accolades after his performance last season. Devine, Dunn, and Mmunga are earning this honor for the first time in their careers.
Ratzer, a defender for the Knights, led the team in goals scored during conference play as he netted three goals on five shots on goal. Two of Ratzer’s goals were game winners. Additionally, Ratzer was two-for-two on penalty kicks. Rizvic scored two goals and assisted two others for Wartburg during the eight conference contests. The senior forward played in six games, while starting four of them. Devine started in every conference contest this season, picking up four points. The senior midfielder scored one goal and recorded two assists. Mmunga, a first year for the Knights, started seven games. The Iowa City native had two shots on goal with one of them finding the back of the net, while also assisting on a goal. Rounding out the All-Conference honorees for the Knights, Dunn started all eight games at defender. The senior scored one goal on five shots taken. Dunn led a strong Wartburg defense that allowed only three goals during the conference season.
Luther had five honorees this season, led by junior goalkeeper,
Jack Bell (Madison, Wis./Madison Memorial). Also earning All-Conference honors for the Norse are
Felipe Alvarez Casaro (Liboa, Portugal/Instituto Espanol Lisboa),
Hernan Manzanet (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/High Mowing School (NH)),
Ramzi Ouro-Akondo (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest), and
Raul Ferrandez (Crevillent, Spain). Manzanet and Ferrandez are picking up their second All-Conference honors while Alvarez Casaro, Bell, and Ouro-Akondo are collecting their first career accolades.
Bell started seven games for the Norse as he recorded a 3-3-1 record in goal. The junior goalkeeper faced 50 shots and gave up just six goals during the conference season, while also recording 12 saves. Additionally, Bell recorded one shutout and combined for another one. Alvarez Casaro led the Norse in points during conference play with six. These came by way of three goals, one of which was a game-winner. Ferrandez started eight contests for the Norse, scoring two goals on five shots on goal. A sophomore defender for the Norse, Ouro-Akondo scored two goals, both game winners in his seven games playing this season. Manzanet is a junior defender for the Luther squad that gave up just six goals during conference play, finishing second-best in the league. He played all 630 minutes for the Norse over seven contests.
The Loras Duhawks had two All-Conference honorees this season, in addition to Miklavcic earning Offensive MVP. Joining Miklavcic on the All-Conference team is senior
Michael Brandt (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) and junior
Bryan Basinger (Bonne Terre, Mo./North County). Brandt is now a four-time All-Conference performer in addition to being named the 2022 Defensive MVP while Basinger is picking up his first All-Conference recognition. Brandt played midfield this season for the Duhawks where he found the back of the net twice in league play. The Ankeny native took five shots with his goals being the only shots on goal. Basinger finished second on the team in total points as he recorded two goals and one assist. The Missouri native had four shots on goal in eight contests.
The University of Dubuque Spartans picked up two All-A-R-C performers this season. The Spartans were led by
Gavin Wooldridge (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) who is now a two-time All-Conference performer. Joining Wooldridge is sophomore midfielder
Carson Kowalski (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein), picking up his first All-Conference accolades in his career. Wooldridge led his team in points, scoring three goals and assisting on four others throughout eight conference contests. The junior forward had two game winners. Kowalski finished conference play scoring two goals for the Spartans, while playing in just six conference contests. The sophomore midfielder was one-for-one on penalty kicks.
Two Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves are earning All-Conference honors this season, led by
Alex Kohler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) who is earning his first All-Conference honor after being named honorable mention a season ago. Kohler played in all eight conference contests this season, scoring two game winning goals and assisting two others. Joining Kohler on this year’s All-Conference team is first year midfielder,
Owen Glogowski (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep). Glogowski is earning his first All-Conference honor. Glogowski led the Prairie Wolves in goals scored this season, as he found the back of the net three times on four shots on goal. Additionally, Glogowski was a perfect two-for-two on penalty kicks.
Buena Vista University had one All-Conference honoree this season,
Kendall Bickford (Grimes, Iowa/Dallas-Center Grimes). Bickford is a sophomore forward for the Beavers and is picking up All-Conference recognition for the first time in his career. The Grimes native started all eight conference games, scoring two goals on eight shots for the Beavers.
The lone Central College Dutch that is earning All-Conference recognition this season is first year forward,
Nolan Piedimonte (Lee’s Summit, Mo./South). Piedimonte started all eight games for the Dutch as he scored four goals and assisted two others. Three of his goals were game winners. The first year forward took just eight shots this season with six of them being on goal.
Coe College’s
Ian Kearney (Las Vegas, Nev./Clark) is earning All-Conference honors for the first time in his career after being named honorable mention a season ago. Kearney started all eight games, finding the back of the net three times while assisting a goal. Kearney was one-for-one on penalty kicks this season.
Rounding out the All-Conference team is senior midfielder from Simpson College,
Ronaldo Ordaz-Zambrano (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown). Ordaz-Zambrano led the conference with 18 points, coming by way of six goals and six assists. The Marshalltown native started all eight conference contests for the Storm. Three of Ordaz-Zambrano’s goals were off penalty kicks, as he went a perfect three-for-three.
