CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Loras College football player
Aidan Driscoll (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) and Loras College women’s cross country runner
Kassie Parker (Guttenberg, Iowa/Clayton Ridge) have been named American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 18, 2022. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and volleyball.
Male Athlete of the Week - Football – Special Teams Player of the Week
Aidan Driscoll, Loras College
Fr., P, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee
- Driscoll sealed the win for the Duhawks with his first career field goal of 37 yards.
- The freshman punted for 206 yards on five attempts with one touchback, one 50-yard punt, and two inside the 20.
- Loras gets their first win of the season as they defeated No. 12 Central College in the first week of A-R-C action.
- This is the Waunakee, Wis. native’s first-career Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
Female Athlete of the Week - Women’s Cross Country – Runner of the Week
Kassie Parker, Loras College
5th Year, Guttenberg, Iowa/Clayton Ridge
- Parker finished first out of 187 runners at the National Catholic Championship hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
- Loras finished in third place with 118 points.
- The 5th year Duhawk is a four-time All-Conference performer.
- The Guttenberg, Iowa native is collecting her twelfth-career Runner of the Week award (9/2/2019, 9/23/2019, 10/7/2019, 10/21/2019, 9/14/2020, 9/28/2020, 10/13/2020, 10/26/2020, 9/13/2021, 9/20/2021, 10/4/2021, 10/18/2021).
Men’s Cross Country – Runner of the Week
Christopher Collet, Wartburg College
Sr., Verona, Ill./Seneca
- Collet finished second out of 72 runners at the Redbird Invite.
- The Knight finished 0.20 seconds behind first place.
- Wartburg won the event with 43 points.
- This marks Collet’s second-career Runner of the Week honor.
Football – Offensive Player of the Week
Evan England, Loras College
So., QB, Wheaton, Ill./Lena-Winslow
- England led Loras to an opening week conference win over No. 12 Central College.
- The Wheaton, Ill. native had three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown on the day.
- England completed 34-of-47 passes (72% completion) leading to 298 passing yards.
- The sophomore quarterback led the Duhawks offense to 468 yards of total offense.
- Loras secured their first win of the season in the opening week of league play.
- This is England’s first-career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Football – Defensive Player of the Week
Josh Kieffer, Loras College
Sr., LB, East Dubuque, Ill./East Dubuque
- Kieffer helped the Duhawks pick up their first win of the season and begin 1-0 in conference play after a 38-35 win over No. 12 Central College.
- The senior forced a fumble in the fourth quarter that was converted into a Loras’ touchdown.
- Kieffer also recorded 15 tackles, four of which were solo.
- The senior linebacker was honored as honorable mention on the 2021 A-R-C All-Conference team.
- The East Dubuque, Ill. native is picking up his first-career Defensive Player of the Week accolade.
Women’s Golf – Golfer of the Week
Thea Lunning, Central College
Sr., Mason City, Iowa/Mason City
- Lunning led the Dutch to a third-place finish at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic at Ironwood Golf Course.
- Lunning shot rounds of 77-75-152 to finish in 7th place out of 99 golfers in the field.
- The Dutch shot rounds of 308-311-619.
- The senior for the Dutch was an All-Conference Performer last season.
- The Mason City native is picking up her first Women’s golfer of the Week honor.
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player of the Week
Michael Brandt, Loras College
Sr., MF, Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial
- Brandt scored the game-winning goal in the lone game of the week for the Duhawks.
- Brandt and Loras improved to 4-1-0 with the win over Illinois Wesleyan.
- The goal was the senior midfielders first goal of the season.
- Brandt is a two-time All-Conference performer.
- The Ankeny native is garnering his first-career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week
Curtis Ratzer, Wartburg College
Jr., D, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/John F. Kennedy
- Ratzer scored the lone goal with a header from a corner kick to force a draw against Carleton.
- The junior defender played an average of 88 minutes in the two matches contested this week.
- Ratzer assisted the Knight defense that has continued to allow under 10 shots per game this season.
- The Knights move their record to 3-1-3.
- The Cedar Rapids native is picking up his first Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week
Elisa Langer, University of Dubuque
Fr., GK, Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West
- Langer helped pace the Spartans to a 2-0 week and improve to 3-0-3.
- The Knights defeated Knox College (2-0) and UW-Oshkosh (2-1).
- The freshman goalkeeper played all 140 minutes over the two contests and maintained a save percentage of .875 over 21 shots faced.
- Wartburg improved to 5-0 on the season.
- The Waukesha, Wis. native is picking up her first-career women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player of the Week
Paige Cahill, Central College
Jr., MF, Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View
- Cahill contributed 9 points to the Dutch offense in their three wins.
- The Dutch went 3-0 with wins over Monmouth (Ill.) (5-0), Cornell (3-0) and Illinois College (4-0).
- Cahill played a total of 201 minutes over the three contests.
- Central improved to 4-2-1 overall this season.
- This is the Castle Rock, Colo. native’s first-career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Women’s Tennis – Player of the Week
Montserrat Ramirez-Mainou, Luther College
So., Queretaro, Mexico/ Instituto Bilingüe Victoria
- Montserrat Ramirez-Mainou led the Norse to a 2-1 record on the week.
- At the No. 4 singles slot, Ramirez-Mainou had the lone win over Carleton.
- Ramirez-Mainou is currently 3-1 in singles for the Norse.
- The Norse are off to a 2-0 start in league play.
- The sophomore is garnering her first-career women’s tennis Player of the Week honor.
Volleyball – Offensive Player of the Week
Maddy Maahs, Coe College
Fr., Setter, Epworth, Iowa/Western Dubuque
- Maahs guided the Kohawk offense finishing 3-1 on the week.
- The Kohawks defeated Luther (3-0), North Central (3-0), Concordia (Wis.) (3-2) and lost to No. 15 UW-Whitewater (0-3).
- The freshman totaled 134 assists.
- In addition, Maahs recorded 7 kills, two aces, and 45 digs.
- The Kohawks improved to 9-3 on the season and opened league play with a win over Luther.
- The Epworth native is picking up her first-career Offensive Player of the Week award.
Volleyball – Defensive Player of the Week
Ella Koloc, Coe College
Fr., L, Dundee, Iowa/West Delaware
- Freshman Ella Koloc assisted the Kohawks to a 3-1 record in the week.
- The Kohawks defeated Luther (3-0), North Central (3-0), Concordia (Wis.) (3-2) and lost to No. 15 UW-Whitewater (0-3).
- Koloc had 60 digs over the four matches with a season best of 29 digs in the Kohawks final game of the week against Concordia (Wis.)
- Additionally, Koloc recorded six aces.
- The Kohawks have a 9-3 overall record and 1-0 league record.
- This is the Dundee native’s first-career Defensive Player of the Week accolade.
