The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) men’s tennis coaches have selected
Rami Hemaidan of Coe College as the 2022 American Rivers Men’s Tennis Player of the Year and tabbed Luther College as Coaching Staff of the Year. In addition to the major awards, the 24-member All-American Rivers Conference team was announced (12-singles, 12-doubles). Ten individuals highlighted both the singles and doubles teams.
Hemaidan, a senior from Cedar Rapids, is the seventh Coe player to earn MVP honors, joining
Johnny Watson (1999-2001),
Nick Barnes (2002-2004),
Ryan Yao (2005),
Tom Jennings (2008),
Greg Janssen (2010),
Noah Sprinkel (2013-2015), and
Brady Anderson (2016-2018). The Kennedy prep is garnering his third consecutive MVP honors for the Kohawks, becoming the fifth Kohawks in program history to earn MVP honors multiple times. The senior tallied an overall record of 14-4 all at No. 1 singles, while maintaining a perfect 3-0 record within league play. In doubles play, he finished 4-1 against conference competition, teaming up with three different Kohawks. Along with being named league MVP, Hemaidan was selected to the singles and doubles All-Conference teams.

Dustin Rhodes (2
nd season) led the Norse to a perfect 8-0 regular season conference record and an American Rivers Conference AQ Tournament title for the third straight time. The AQ title was the ninth in school history. With the championship, Luther earned the league’s automatic berth to the 2022 NCAA Division III National Tournament. This is the third time under the direction of Strand that Luther has won Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The Norse now have 21 men’s tennis Coach of the Year accolades since the award was first presented in 1975. The previous Luther head coaches earning the award include;

Brian Huinker (6), and
Paul Solberg (1).
Joining Hemaidan as All-Conference singles honorees are teammates
Jon Lansing (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier),
Nathan Meskell (Sr., Beaverton, Ore./Aloha), and
Bo Wilson (Sr., Sugar Land, Texas/Stephen F. Austin). All three are being named All-Conference for singles for the second time. Meskell and Wilson also earned honorable mention recognition in 2019. On the doubles side, all four also received All-Conference honors. The Kohawks finished the season with a 7-1 A-R-C record and 16-9 overall.
Lansing, playing No. 1 and 2 singles during league play for the Kohawks, tallied a perfect 6-0 record. In total, the Xavier prep went 14-6 during the season for the Kohawks. In doubles play, Lansing partnered with three different teammates throughout the year, but primarily with Graham Peterson. The senior tallied a 6-1 conference record playing at the No. 1 and 2 slots. On the season, Lansing totaled a doubles record of 19-4.
Playing at four different singles slots for the Kohawks this season, Meskell compiled a singles record of 9-12 overall and 5-1 in league play. On the doubles side, partnering primarily with Jordan Oaks, the duo went 4-1 in conference play at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Overall, Meskell recorded a conference record of 5-1 and overall record of 10-11.
Rounding out the All-Conference selections for the Kohawks and playing at the No. 1, 2 and 3 slots for Coe this season was Wilson, who held a 9-9 overall record. During conference play, Wilson recorded a 2-2 season, both wins coming at the No. 2 position. In doubles play, Wilson partnered with Hemaidan for most of the season. The Sugar Land native compiled a 16-5 overall season in doubles play. Wilson partnered with three different players during conference play and totaled a record of 4-1.
Representing the Central College Dutch in doubles is senior
Tanner Finken (Sr., Carroll, Iowa/Carroll). In doubles play this season, the senior played at No. 1 where he compiled a 6-9 record on the season and 3-4 in conference play, partnering primarily with Nick Scott. Finken is jumping up to the All-Conference team after being named honorable mention a year ago. He helped guide the Dutch to a 10-9 mark overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Picking up All-Conference honors in singles play for the Dubuque Spartans is
Milan Zivkovic (Fr., Bremen, Germany/Freie Evangelische Bekenntnisschule Bremen). Playing primarily at No. 1 singles, Zivkovic compiled a record of 11-5 overall and 5-3 during league play. As a freshman for the Spartans, the Germany native is collecting his first All-Conference honor.
The lone Loras College Duhawk to earn All-Conference recognition this season in both singles and doubles is
Kevin Blomquist (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty). The Las Vegas native held the No. 1 position for the Duhawks, totaling an overall record of 8-11, while going 3-5 in league play. In doubles play, Blomquist primary partnered with Thomas Kampmier and played at the No. 1 slot. During the conference season, Blomquist compiled a 5-3 record, while maintaining a winning record on the season with an 11-8 overall record.
Luther saw four players earn All-Conference singles honors this season.
Max Loen (So., Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) went 3-1 in A-R-C action this spring, while compiling a 12-8 overall record, primarily playing at the No. 1 and 2 slot. The Eau Claire native is picking up his second All-Conference singles honors.
Nyathi Motlojoa (Sr., Lesotho, South Africa/Grey College) joins Schneider as an All-Conference singles performer. The South Africa native played at No. 1 singles for the Norse, compiling a 3-1 record in A-R-C action and a 15-5 overall mark. Motlojoa is collecting his second All-Conference Singles recognition.
Freshman
Joaquim Fernandes (Fr., Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colégio Saber) is the third Norse to earn All-Conference singles recognition. Compiling a 12-10 record for the Norse playing at four different slots. In conference play, Fernandes was a perfect 7-0, including two wins at No. 2 and No. 3 and picking up a single win at No. 1 and No. 4. The freshman is earning his first All-Conference singles honor.
Rounding out the All-Conference singles performers for the Norse is freshman
Luke Westholder (Fr., Edina, Minn./Edina). Playing at multiple slots for Luther, Westholder compiled an 8-8 season record, while going a perfect 4-0 in league play. The Edina prep is collecting his first All-Conference singles recognition.
The Norse had three players named to the All-Conference Doubles team, Motlojoa, Loen, and Westholder. Motlojoa and Loen primarily partnered together this season, with only a few matches being played with a different teammate. During conference play, Motlojoa and Loen played at the No. 1 slot, with Motlojoa compiled a 6-0 record and Loen totaling a 5-0 record. During the season for the Norse, Motlojoa totaled an overall record of 19-3, with Loen compiling an 18-3 record. Motlojoa is picking up his second All-Conference doubles honor and Loen is picking up his first All-Conference doubles recognition.
Joining Motlojoa and Loen on the All-Conference Doubles team is Westholder. The Edina, Minnesota native played with multiple partners throughout the season, primarily at the No. 2 slot. Westholder compiled a 10-9 record for the Norse, while going 4-1 in league play. In addition to earning a spot on the All-Conference Singles team this year, Westholder is picking up his first recognition on the All-Conference Doubles team.
In his second season with Nebraska Wesleyan,
Ryan Carey (So., Omaha, Neb./Millard South) is now a two-time All-Conference singles and doubles performer. Carey guided the Prairie Wolves to a 4-12 overall record, while going 3-5 in conference play and earning a spot in the conference’s AQ tournament. Playing at the No. 1 slot for NWU, Carey compiled a season record of 4-9 and 3-5 in conference play. In doubles play, Carey partnered with Will Olson at the No. 1 position for the Prairie Wolves. The duo went 5-3 in A-R-C action and compiled an overall record of 8-7.
Lucas Huffman (Sr., Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) is the only Knight to be recognized as an All-Conference singles player for the second-consecutive season. Huffman guided the Knights to a 25-9 overall record, the most matches of any team. In league play, the Knights finished third in conference, compiling a 6-2 record. The Linn-Mar prep played at No. 1 for the Knights and recorded a 20-4 overall record, while going 7-1 in conference play. Huffman’s performances this season adds to his 2019 and 2021 All-Conference singles and doubles honors.
Joining Huffman as an All-Conference doubles selection is teammate and partner,
Jackson Eells (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar). Huffman and Eells compiled a 17-6 and 18-6 record on the season, respectively. In league play, the Linn-Mar duo compiled a 6-2 record. This marks Eells’ second All-Conference doubles honor for the Knights.
