DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Loras men and the Dubuque women lead after the first day of competition at the 2022 American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Women's Day 1 Highlights
  • For the first time in four years, the Pentathlon saw a new champion. Grace Alley of Loras claimed the title with a point total of 3,365. 
  • Dubuque’s Carrie Docherman found herself at the top of the podium in the pole vault for the second straight year, defending her 2021 title.
  • Loras’ Kassie Parker got the track events started at the A-R-C Indoor Championships in the 5,000m for the second consecutive year with a time of 17:20.81.
  • In the women’s long jump, University of Dubuque’s Emma Seipel claimed first place with a jump of 5.59m. 
  • Loras’ senior Elayna Bahl had the best prelim time in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.87. This time breaks the conference championship mark by 0.01 seconds.
  • NWU’s Maddie Moran set a new facility record and enters finals with the best prelim time of 7.72 seconds in the 60m dash.
  • The distance medley relay title went to Wartburg’s team of Ellie Osterberger, Stevie Lambe, Frankie Chaidez, and Valerie Herbest who ran it with a time of 12:17:24 after being the runner-up in 2021. 
  • In her last attempt, Rebecca Simpson of BVU took first place by 0.01m in the shot put with a toss of 13.87m.
 
Men's Day 1 Highlights
  • Central's Reid Pakkebier leads the heptathlon with 2619 total points with the final two events tomorrow.
  • It was Brock Lewis of Central who took the title in the long jump for the second straight year with a jump of 7.30m.
  • Shot put saw a new champion this year and it was Loras’ Holden Murphy who found himself at the top of the podium with a throw of 15.53m. 
  • The Duhawks’ Ryan Rogers clears 4.58m in the pole vault to defend his gold medal for the third year.
  • Joe Freiburger of Wartburg earned the gold medal and defended his 2021 title with a time of 14:49.18.
  • In the 60m hurdles, the top three finishers broke the facility record that was previously 8.27 seconds. It was Wartburg’s Dallas Wright who came out on top with the best prelim time of 8.21 seconds.
  • Josh Smith of Loras had the best prelim time in the 60m dash and broke the facility record with a time of 6.79 seconds.
  • In the distance medley, the top three finishers broke the facility record to close the out the running events. The Loras Duhawks’ team of Wyaat Kelly, Carson Vaske, Mike Jasa, and Ryan Harvey took the title with a time of 10:03.09.
