2009-2022 Team National Championships Spotlight 22 National Championships Collected in Last 13 Years 12/21/2022 8:55:00 AM 2009: Wartburg Women’s Indoor Track & Field: Wartburg claimed their first women’s indoor track & field title in program history after scoring a total of 51 points after finishing runner-up the year prior. The championship was hosted by DePauw. [Head Coach: Marcus Newsom] Wartburg Wrestling: Claiming back-to-back wrestling national championships was the Knights in 2009. Housed in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wartburg scored 12.5 points better than Augsburg to take home their seventh national championship in program history. [Head Coach: Jim Miller] Wartburg Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: Wartburg took home the national championship trophy after winning by only a margin of two points over UW-Oshkosh. [Head Coach: Marcus Newsom] 2010: Wartburg Women’s Indoor Track & Field: Wartburg brought a national championship trophy back to Waverly, Iowa after winning back-to-back women’s indoor track & field national championships. The championship was hosted by Rose-Hulman. [Head Coach: Marcus Newsom] 2011: Wartburg Wrestling: Traveling to La Crosse, Wisconsin was a successful trip for the Knights as they claimed their eighth wrestling national championship in program history. Wartburg defeated national rival, Augsburg, by 28.5 points. [Head Coach: Jim Miller/Eric Keller] 2012: Wartburg Women’s Indoor Track & Field: Wartburg claimed their third women’s indoor track & field national championship on the campus of Grinnell College. [Head Coach: Marcus Newsom] Wartburg Wrestling: Going back to familiar, successful territory, the Knights headed back to La Crosse, Wisconsin to claim back-to-back national championships. This title was Wartburg’s ninth national championship in program history. Wartburg ran over Augsburg after winning by 55 points. [Head Coach: Jim Miller/Eric Keller] Wartburg Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: In Claremont, California Wartburg completed the women’s track and field sweep after dominating at the outdoor championships. Wartburg claimed the victory by a margin of 77 points. This tallied Wartburg’s third national championship for the academic year. [Head Coach: Marcus Newsom] 2013: Wartburg Wrestling: With the national championship returning to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wartburg did not have a long commute to win their third consecutive, and tenth all-time, national championship. The Knights defeated runner-up Elmhurst by 21 points. This was the last national championship under the direction of legendary head coach, Jim Miller. [Head Coach: Jim Miller/Eric Keller] Wartburg Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: Wartburg earned back-to-back national titles in women’s outdoor track and field in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Wartburg defeated runner-up UW-Oshkosh by a margin of 3 points. [Head Coach: Marcus Newsom] 2014: Wartburg Wrestling: Returning to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wartburg was ready to defend their titles, and they were successful with that. The Knights claimed their fourth straight national title after running over UW-Whitewater by 36.5 points. This title tallied the Knight wrestling total to eleven national championships. [Head Coach: Eric Keller] Wartburg Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: Wartburg won their third women’s outdoor track and field national championship in 2014 in Delaware, Ohio. Wartburg nudged ahead of runner-up UW-Oshkosh to win by 2 points. [Head Coach: Marcus Newsom] 2016: Wartburg Wrestling: After a runner-up finish in 2015, Wartburg returned to the top in 2016 to win their 12th national championship. Wartburg defeated Messiah College by 29.5 points. [Head Coach: Eric Keller]. 2017: Wartburg Wrestling: Head Coach Eric Keller led the Knights back to the top for back-to-back years. The Knights defeated Augsburg by 50.5 points in the championship hosted in La Crosse, Wisconsin. This title brought the total national championships for Knights wrestling to 13. [Head Coach: Eric Keller] 2018: Wartburg Wrestling: As the championship traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, the national championship trophy found its way back to Waverly, Iowa for the 14th time in Wartburg wrestling history. The Knights defeated runner-up Augsburg by 54.5 points. [Head Coach: Eric Keller] Nebraska Wesleyan Men’s Basketball: In 2018, Nebraska Wesleyan ran past Springfield in the national semifinals by a score of 90-78. In the national championship, NWU defeated UW-Oshkosh 78-72 to hoist the trophy. [Head Coach: Dale Wellman] 2019: Loras Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: Loras women’s outdoor track and field claimed their first national championship in 2019. The Duhawks won by a margin of 4 points over Washington-St. Louis. UW-La Crosse served as the host in La Crosse, Wisconsin. [Head Coach: Matt Jones] 2021: Loras Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: After a break year due to Covid-19, Loras came back as champions again. Loras outlasted UW-La Crosse by 2 points to claim back-to-back titles in Greensboro, North Carolina. [Head Coach: Matt Jones] Wartburg Men’s Outdoor Track & Field: Wartburg claimed their first men’s outdoor track and field national championship in Greensboro, North Carolina after edging out UW-Eau Claire by a margin of 5 points. [Head Coach: Marcus Newsom] 2022: Loras Women’s Indoor Track & Field: The Duhawks claimed their first women’s indoor track & field national championship after scoring 59 points to hoist the national championship trophy in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. [Head Coach: Matt Jones] Wartburg Wrestling: After two years of not having a NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the championship returned in 2022 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where the Knights found themselves on top for the 15th time in program history. Wartburg snuck by Wabash by 1 point to claim the title. [Head Coach: Eric Keller] Loras Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: Sweeping the women’s track and field national championships in 2022, Loras won their third consecutive outdoor title in Geneva, Ohio.
