Coe Volleyball Falls in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 21-ranked Coe College Kohawks (27-6, 8-0 A-R-C) drops out of the 2022 NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament after a 3-0 loss to University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Kohawks have made it to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history, all under current head coach and this year’s Coach of the Year, DeAnn Akins. Coe had a 27-win season for the first time since 2014 when they made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Kohawks had a slow start in the first set but were able to fight there way back to tie the set up at 20. Their run wasn’t enough as they fell 25-22 in set one. The second set was a repeat of the first set, with Coe falling behind early. They were able to fight back to tie the set at 20 all again. The Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers went on a run and came out ahead 25-20. The Pointers had no signs of slowing down as they took the third and final set 25-19.
 
Leading the Kohawk offense was Kate Tidman and Grace Lueken with eight kills apiece, followed by Maggie Furlong with six kills. Dishing out the assists was the Region 9 Freshman of the Year, Maddy Maahs with 24 assists. On the defensive side was 2022 A-R-C Most Valuable Player, Madi Parson, recording 14 digs, followed closely behind by Tidman with 10 and Ella Koloc with nine digs. Furlong also was credited with five blocks, enough to lead both teams. Coe combined for eight assists in the three-set match.
