Wanek of Simpson Collects American Rivers Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Nebraska Wesleyan University women’s track & field athlete Isabella Hogue (Murray, Neb./Consestoga) and Loras College men’s track & field athlete Mike Jasa (Fairfax, Iowa/Prairie) have been named American Rivers Conference Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 31, 2022. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, and wrestling.

Female Athlete of the Week - Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Performer of the Week16977
Isabella Hogue, Nebraska Wesleyan University
So., Murray, Neb./Consestoga
  • Hogue ran the NCAA Division III’s fastest time in the 60-meter dash on Saturday, Jan. 29, running 7.63 in the prelims.
  • Her time also sets a new program record by .12 seconds.
  • The previous record was set in 2005 by Katie Dobesh with a time of 7.75.
  • The Murray, Nebraska native is picking up her first-career Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week honor.

Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Performer of the Week16849

  • The No. 2-ranked Duhawks won the UD Spartan Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29 with 206 points.
  • The junior finished first of 28 competitors in the 400-meter dash.
  • He ran a 49.18 in the event, clocking the second fastest time in Division III.
  • Jasa was also a member of the 4-by-400-meter relay team that ran the nation’s fastest time (3:17.56).
  • The relay team finished nearly seven seconds ahead of second place.
  • The Fairfax, Iowa native is collecting his fifth-career Men’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week honor (1/31/22, 12/13/21, 2/8/21, 2/3/20, 12/19/19).

Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week16803

Fr., F, Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian School
  • Lash helped lead the Prairie Wolves to a 2-1 on the week in league play with wins over Simpson (77-73) and Buena Vista (77-73 OT), and a loss to Dubuque (84-64).
  • During the three-game span, Lash averaged 23.3 points and five rebounds per game.
  • The freshman shot 91 percent, going 10-11 on the field, 75 percent from behind the line, and hit all four three-pointers he took in the overtime win against Buena Vista, scoring 27 points in 38 minutes of play.
  • Lash scored 20 and 23 points against Simpson and Dubuque, respectively.
  • The freshman forward limited his turnovers to three, in the three-game span.
  • The Prairie Wolves improved to 11-8 overall and 5-5 in A-R-C play.
  • The Charlotte native is collecting his fourth-career Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor (1/21/22, 12/20/21, 12/5/21, 11/29/21).

Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week16978

Sr., G, Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic
  • Wanek helped lead the No.5/6-ranked Storm to a 2-0 week in conference play over Loras (81-74) and No. 12/15-ranked Wartburg (78-73 OT).
  • She recorded a career high of 22 points against Loras.
  • The senior guard went 5-8 behind the arc and 8-13 on the field against Loras.
  • Wanek had a total of 15 points in the Storm’s overtime win against Wartburg.
  • The senior averaged 8.5 rebounds during the two-game span.
  • The Storm improved to 17-1 overall and remains undefeated in league play (9-0).
  • The Urbandale, Iowa native is garnering her first-career Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor.

Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Performer of the Week16979
Aaliyah Collier, University of Dubuque
Fr., Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West
  • The Spartans finished second of eight teams at the UD Spartan Invitational with 150 points.
  • Collier finished first in the high jump (1.56m) and second in the triple jump (11.25m).
  • She finished third in the long jump (5.33m) and was a part of the second-place 4-by-400-meter relay team (4:07.63).
  • Collier currently ranks second in the A-R-C in high jump, and third in the long jump and triple jump.
  • The Glendale Heights native is collecting her first-career Women’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week honor.

Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Performer of the Week16981

Sr., St. Ansgar, Iowa/St. Ansgar
  • Baldus finished second place in the weight throw at the Wartburg Friday Night Lights on Friday, Jan. 28.
  • The senior was the top Division III athlete in the weight throw with a toss of 16.16 meters.
  • Baldus finished ninth place in the shot put, throwing 12.61 meters.
  • The St. Ansgar, Iowa native is garnering his first career Men’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week honor.

Wrestling – Wrestler of the Week16980
Zayren Terukina, Wartburg College
Jr., 141lbs., Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell
  • No. 1-ranked Wartburg College defeated No. 4 Augsburg 24-8, improving to 9-0 on the season, and remain undefeated in conference duals (5-0).
  • Terukina played a key role in the Knights victory by defeating No. 3 Sam Stuhl at 141lbs.
  • The junior was one of the first five matches that Wartburg won.
  • The No.1-ranked Knights took eight of the ten weight classes.
  • The Ewa Beach, Hawaii native is garnering his first-career Wrestler of the Week honor.
