CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that University of Dubuque men’s basketball player
Peter Ragen (Orland Park, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and women’s basketball player
Jenna Taylor (Creston, Iowa/Creston) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 31, 2021. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s basketball, and wrestling.
Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Jenna Taylor, Simpson College
Sr., Creston, Iowa/Creston
- Taylor became the 17th member of Simpson’s 1,000-point club on Saturday, Jan. 30 as the Storm defeated Coe 78-68.
- On Jan. 27 Simpson took down Nebraska Wesleyan 88-48.
- The Creston, Iowa native dropped 30 points in the Storm’s 40-point victory over NWU while collecting eight rebounds.
- Against the Kohawks, Taylor had a double-double performance, scoring 16 points and collecting 10 rebounds in the win.
- Simpson has won Female Athlete of the Week and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks (Cameron Kincaid).
- This is Taylor’s fifth career Player of the Week honor (2/1/21, 2/10/20, 12/17/18, 11/19/18, 11/12/18) and fourth career Female Athlete of the Week honor.
Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Peter Ragen, University of Dubuque

- Ragen guided the Spartans to a 2-0 week and has the Spartans tied for first in the conference.
- Dubuque picked up a home court victory over Coe on Jan. 27 (86-71) and followed that up with a road win at Wartburg on Jan. 30 (72-55).
- Against the Kohawks, the Orland Park, Ill. native dropped a game-high 20 points with three rebounds and three blocked shots.
- Ragen dropped a double-double in Waverly with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while also tallying three assists and two blocked shots.
- This is the first Spartan to earn Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week since TJ Lake on Jan. 7, 2018 and the first to earn Player of the Week honors since Mitch Burger on Jan. 27, 2020.
- This is the senior’s first-career Athlete of the Week and Player of the Week honors.
Wrestling – Wrestler of the Week
Kris Rumph, Wartburg College
Jr., Portage, Ind./Portage
- Rumph helped guide the No. 1/2-ranked Knights to two dual victories over No. 14/15-ranked Coe (23-21) and Simpson (45-6) at the Simpson Triangular on Jan. 30.
- The Portage, Ind. native won by fall in 5:54 over Coe’s No. 4-ranked and 2020 A-R-C Freshman of the Year Riley Wright.
- Rumph followed up his performance with a 21-6 technical fall win over Simpson’s Josh Bower.
- The junior improves his season record to 3-0 at 141 lbs.
- He is the second straight Wartburg wrestler to win the Wrestler of the Week honor (Zane Mulder).
- This makes first-career Athlete of the Week honors for Rumph and his second Wrestler of the Week honors (2/4/19).
