CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Loras College women’s basketball player
Madison Fleckenstein (Asbury, Iowa/Hempstead) and wrestler
Shane Liegel (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley) have been named American Rivers Conference Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 19, 2021. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s basketball.
Female Athlete of the Week - Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Madison Fleckenstein, Loras College
Jr., G, Asbury, Iowa/Hempstead
- Fleckenstein led the charge for a comeback win for the Duhawks on Sunday against Washington and Lee University (67-55)
- She had a career-high scoring 21 points and shooting 53% from the field and 33% from behind the arc.
- The junior also collected five rebounds, four steals, and two blocked shots.
- She collected 12 of her own points in Loras’ 28-point comeback fourth quarter.
- The Duhawks moved to a 6-3 record overall and 2-1 in league play.
- The Asbury, Iowa native is collecting her first Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor.
Male Athlete of the Week – Wrestling – Wrestler of the Week
Shane Liegel, Loras College
Jr., 184lbs., Spring Green, Wis./River Valley
- No. 4 Loras Duhawks went 3-0 on the week at the Gator ‘Boots” Duals in Nashville.
- The junior also went 3-0 on the weekend adding three more pins to his name and improved to 14-0 on the season.
- No. 1 ranked at 184 lbs., Liegel pinned Skyler Cowgill of Wilmington College in 22 seconds.
- Against No. 16 UW-Eau Claire, he pinned Chase Melton at the 1:13 mark as Loras defeated the Blugolds 36-3.
- In his third match of the day, Liegel pinned Devontay Moore of Manchester University in 50 seconds.
- The No. 4 Duhawks moved to 6-0 on the season overall and 1-0 in the conference.
- Liegel is a two-time All-Conference honoree and was named Co-MVP in 2020-21.
- The Spring Green, Wisconsin native is collecting his fourth-career Wrestler of the Week accolade (12/20/21, 12/6/21, 11/22/21, 11/25/19).
Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Peter Lash, Nebraska Wesleyan University
Fr., G, Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian School
- Nash helped lead the Prairie Wolves to a victory over Principia (100-64).
- He scored a game high of 23 points and shot 70% from both the field and free-throw line.
- The freshman tallied seven rebounds, a single block, and one steal.
- This is the fifth time this season Lash has scored 20 points or more.
- Nash also shot for 67% from behind the arc.
- The Prairie Wolves improved to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.
- The Charlotte native is collecting his third-career men’s basketball Player of the Week honor (12/20/21, 12/5/21, 11/29/21).
