CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The American Rivers Conference announced today that Coe College freshman Madison Schultz (Jasper, Ga./James Madison) has been selected Women’s Tennis Player of the Year for the 2021 season. The Central College coaching staff, directed by head coach Ryun Ferrell and assisted by Trevor Budewitz and Laura Bade, earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors. In addition to the major awards the league announced the 22-member All-Conference team.

Ferrell, in his eighth season at the helm of the women’s team, guided the Dutch to a second-place finish. The Dutch finished conference play with a 6-2 mark and an 8-7 overall record. Central’s Coaching Staff of the Year honor is the first under the direction of Ferrell and the fifth for the program.

Schultz, in her first season, is earning All-Conference recognition along with her MVP accolade. She is the first Kohawk to earn MVP honors since Lauren French won it in 2018. She finished conference dual play with a 5-0 record at No.1 singles and a 3-0 mark at No.2 singles.

Central’s Alyssa Lewton (Ankeny, Iowa/Centennial) becomes a two-time All-Conference doubles honoree and is picking up her first singles honor. Lewton finished conference play with a 3-4 record at No.2. Lewton partnered with senior Maddie Hartley (Clarinda, Iowa/Clarinda) and joins Lewton on the All-Conference doubles team. Hartley is picking up her first All-Conference doubles accolades after earning honorable mention recognition a year ago. The two partnered to compile a 5-2 record at No.1, and a first-place finish in A-Doubles at the 2021 A-R-C Individual Tournament. Also joining Lewton on the All-Conference singles team is senior Bronwyn Metcalf (Pella, Iowa/Pella). She finished third at this year’s Individual Tournament. Metcalf concluded conference play with a mark of 3-5 at No.1 singles.

Loras College’s Lauren Diiulio (Bettendorf, Iowa/Davenport Assumption) is earning her first All-Conference singles and doubles honors after being named honorable mention a year ago. The junior finished conference play with a 3-5 record at No.1 singles and 5-3 at No.1 doubles.

Nebraska Wesleyan’s Brooke Sailer (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) becomes a three-time All-Conference singles honoree along with a 2019 All-Conference doubles honoree. Sailer finished conference play with a 6-1 mark at No.1 singles.
