Loras and Wartburg Advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Women's Tournament

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Wartburg College Knights and the Loras College Duhawks both advance to the Second Round of the 2020 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament. 

Wartburg advanced with a 91-55 win over Midwest Conference opponent, the Monmouth Fighting Scots. 

The Knights were led offensively by A-R-C Most Valuable Player, senior Emma Gerdes who led the team with 14 points and had three assists on the night. Payton Draper contributed 13 points, and Kaitlyn Volesky and Tori Hazard both had 12 points. Volesky and Macy Harris cleaned up on the boards, both collecting eight rebounds in the Wartburg victory. 

Wartburg will face No. 10/11 (D3hoops.com/WBCA) Whitman College Blues Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. inside of Levick Arena. The Blues of Whitman received an at-large berth to the field of 64 after falling 57-55 to George Fox University in the Northwest Conference (NWC) Tournament semifinal. The Blues took down the Wheaton Thunder 86-83 in overtime to set up a top 10 match up tomorrow night.

Loras defeated the Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles in the first round by the score of 68-52. The Duhawks were led by Marissa Schroeder who dropped 20 points and nine rebounds in the victory. Kourtney Schnoor scored 14 points, along 11 points from Kari FitzpatrickRiley Eckhart grabbed six rebounds. Senior Mackenzie Kraemer dished out five assists.

The Duhawks will face host institution and No. 3/3-ranked DePauw Tigers in the Second Round tomorrow night. The Tigers took down Webster University 71-45 on their home floor. DePauw won the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament Championship to earn the league's automatic qualifier and the program's 17th straight NCAA bid and 21st overall. The Tigers defeated Denison 66-47 in the Tournament Championship. The top 15 showdown is set for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off on the campus of DePauw University.
