CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference announced today the winter sport members of its 2019-20 All-Academic Team. One hundred and forty-nine student-athletes from the Conference's five winter championship sports met the requirements for recognition.
To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must be on the eligibility list for the sport of nomination, at least a sophomore in academic standing with at least one year in residence and attain an accumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better (on a 4.0 scale).
Simpson College led the way in total honorees for schools sponsoring swimming and diving with 24 student-athletes. Coe College placed the second highest total with 23, while Nebraska Wesleyan was third with 22. Rounding out the schools sponsoring swimming and diving in conjunction with the three additional winter championship sports, Luther saw 18 earn honors while Loras garnered 17 awards
Wartburg College saw the greatest number of award winners among non-swimming and diving schools with 15. Buena Vista University recorded 11 awards, followed by Central with 10 and Dubuque with nine.
Women's basketball led all sports with 55 honorees, including at least three from each school. Men's basketball was second with 36. Swimming and Diving combined for 37 honorees (20-women, 17-men) while wrestling totaled 21 award winners.
