Joe Freiburger (Holy Cross, Iowa/Western Dubuque) and women’s cross country runner
Aubrie Fisher (Ackley, Iowa/AGWSR) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, November 8, 2020.
Female Athlete of the Week – Cross Country – Runner of the Week

- Fisher took home the individual title at the 2020 A-R-C Championships with a time of 21:56.85 in the 6,000-meter race, defeating the second-place finisher by nearly seven seconds.
- The sophomore led the way for the Knights, as the Knights dominated with a team score of 24 points, earning their second consecutive team title.
- Over the course of the regular season, Fisher won three out of the four races for the Knights.
- The Ackley, Iowa native’s fastest 6,000-meter race time this season was 21:32.8 on Oct. 10 at the Wartburg Triangular.
- Fisher is earning her first career Female Runner of the Week honor.
Male Athlete of the Week – Cross Country – Runner of the Week
Joe Freiburger, Wartburg College
Sr., Holy Cross, Iowa/Western Dubuque
- Freiburger won the 2020 A-R-C men’s individual title with a time of 25:38.54 in the 8,000-meter, outpacing teammate Dalton Martin by almost five seconds.
- The Holy Cross, Iowa native defended his 2019 title, winning his second career A-R-C individual title.
- Freiburger finished the 2020 season undefeated, sweeping the individual championships at the regular-season conference triangular meets.
- The Knights claimed back-to-back titles as a team with a dominant score of 27.
- This is the senior’s ninth career Runner of the Week mark (11/3/19, 10/21/19, 9/23/19, 9/9/19, 9/14/20, 9/28/20, 10/13/20, 10/26/20, 11/9/20).
- Freiburger finished 22nd at last year’s NCAA Championships, earning All-American distinctions.
