Simpson's Chubb, Wartburg's Briggs Named A-R-C Athletes of the Week

Performers of the Week Announced in Three Sports

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference announced that Simpson College women’s basketball player Cassie Chubb (Des Moines, Iowa/Saydel) and Wartburg College wrestler Kyle Briggs (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 29, 2019. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s basketball, and wrestling.
 
Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week14100
Cassie Chubb, Simpson College
Sr., F, Des Moines, Iowa/Saydel
  • Chubb averaged 14.7 points over the last three games to help the Storm garner a four-game winning streak.
  • In Simpson’s 95-53 win over Aurora, Chubb scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, two steals, and dealt three assists.
  • Chubb scored 17 points, brought down nine boards, snagged six steals, and provided two assists in the Storm’s 76-69 win over Millikin.
  • With 14 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal, Chubb helped Simpson defeat SUNY New Paltz 88-60.
  • Through 11 games, Chubb leads the team in scoring (14.4ppg) and rebounds (6.2rpg).
  • She has scored double figures in every game but one this season. 
  • This marks the first Player of the Week accolade for Chubb.
 
Male Athlete of the Week - Wrestling – Wrestler of the Week14102
Kyle Briggs, Wartburg College
Jr., 174/184 lbs., Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson
  • Briggs, the top-ranked 174 lbs. wrestler by the National Wrestlers Coaches Association (NWCA), bumped up to 184 lbs. for the 2019 Desert Duals December 22.
  • The No. 1-ranked Knights went 3-0 on the weekend with wins over Trine, No. 10-ranked North Central, and Division II opponent Northern State (S.D.).
  • Briggs went 3-0 with a 20-3 technical fall over Trine's Luke Carver, 11-7 decision over No. 7 Cody Baldridge of North Central, and a 2:45 pin over NCAA Division II Northern State's Marcus Placide.
  • The three wins improved Briggs’ record to 13-0 on the season.
  • This marks the Cedar Rapids, Iowa native’s second career Wrestler of the Week honor (12/30/19, 12/3/18).
 
Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week14101
Adam Reiter, Simpson College
Sr., C, Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny
  • Reiter shot 82.3% from the floor in the team's two games to average 20.5 points per game.
  • In the Storm’s 84-83 victory over UC Santa Cruz, Reiter tallied his fifth double-double of the year with 20 points and 10 boards.
  • The senior center came up two rebounds shy of another double-double in Simpson’s 87-75 loss to Redlands.
  • While the Storm fell short against Redlands, Reiter put up 21 points, blocked two shots, and came away with a steal.
  • Through 12 games, the Ankeny, Iowa native is averaging 17.8 ppg and 9.3 rpg.
  • This is Reiter’s second Player of the Week honor (12/30/19, 12/10/18).
