Loras Men and Women Crowned A-R-C Indoor Track & Field Champions for Third Straight Year

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men and women capture team titles at the 2024 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Indoor Track & Field Championships.
 
With a final point total of 202 team points, the women of Loras College claimed the third-straight indoor championship title. This is also the third time in program history they have taken home the crown. Loras had 31 All-Conference performers, including three relay teams. The Duhawks bested second-place Wartburg by just 23.5 points. The team title earned Loras Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year honors, led by head coach Matt Jones.
 
Women’s Most Valuable Performer honors went to Loras’ Grace Alley and Wartburg’s JoJo Tyynismaa. Alley picked up Most Valuable Field Performer honors after claiming the gold medals in the pentathlon, high jump, and triple jump. She also finished third in the 60-meter hurdles and long jump. Tyynismaa earned Most Valuable Track Performer accolades after claiming a first-place finish (60-meter hurdles), second-place finish (400-meter), and a third-place finish (200-meter). Additionally, Tyynismaa was a member of the Wartburg 4x400-meter relay team that finished second.
 
On the men’s side, Loras won the team title for the third-straight year and sixth time in program history. The Duhawks compiled 145.5 total team points, just 1.5 points ahead of second-place Wartburg College. The Duhawks, led by Jones, also earned Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year accolades. Loras had 14 All-Conference Performers, including the distance medley relay team.
 
Men’s Most Valuable Performer honors went to Loras’ Holden Murphy and Simpson’s Spencer Moon. Murphy earned the Most Valuable Field Performer honors after earning titles in both events he competed in; shot put (16.89 meters) and weight throw (19.73). Murphy’s toss in the weight throw set a new championship record while both marks are now top-10 in NCAA Division III. Moon was named Most Valuable Track Performer after finishing on top of the podium in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs. His time of 8:16.11 in the 3,000-meter set a new championship and facility record.
 
Women’s Day 2 Highlights
  • Central’s Caroline McMartin broke a facility record in the women’s one mile run, finishing first in 4:52.75. This time now sits at No. 3 on the NCAA Division III performance list.
  • Loras’ Emma Seipel had the No. 19 mark in Division III in the 60-meter dash as she finished with a time of 7.71.
  • Caitlyn Cox of Loras set a new conference championship and all-time record in the weight throw with a mark of 19.49 meters. This mark was over a meter better than the second-place finisher.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan’s Isabella Hogue won the 400-meter dash with a championship record time of 55.78. This time leads Division III this season.
  • Harmony Creasy of Loras takes home the 200-meter title, finishing on top in 25.38.
  • Wartburg’s JoJo Tyynismaa finished with a time of 8.89 to take home her second-straight title in the 60-meter hurdles.
  • In the 800-meter run, Central’s Peyton Steffen finished on top of the podium, setting a new facility record of 2:14.35.
  • In the 3,000-meter run, Central’s Megan Johnson ran in a time of 9:40.39 to claim the new championship record as well as the individual title.
  • After winning the pentathlon yesterday, Grace Alley claimed her second-straight gold medal in the triple jump with a mark of 11.84.
  • Grace Alley took the individual title in the high jump as well as she cleared 1.71-meters.
  • The Wartburg 4x00m relay team of Madison Prier, Rachel Nagle, Ella Johnson, and Haley Meyer took home gold medals with a time of 9:24.29.
  • Central’s Lizzy Van Utrecht, Ava Parkins, Abby Gruver, and Abbi Roerdink claimed the gold medals in the 4x400m relay to end the championship with a Dutch victory.

Men’s Day 2 Highlights
  • In the heptathlon, Central’s Gavin Smith edged out his second-place teammate Gage Huyser by 39 points to win the title.
  • Loras’ Holden Murphy set a new championship record in the weight throw as he took the individual title with a mark of 19.73-meters.
  • A senior from the University of Dubuque, Jaidyn Williams, claimed his second-straight gold medal in the triple jump with a mark of 14.60-meters.
  • Central’s Gunner Meyer claimed first place in the high jump, besting the second-place finisher by .03 meters. Meyer finished with a mark of 2.07-meters.
  • There was a new facility record set in the one mile run with Noah Jorgenson of Central taking home the gold. Jorgenson finished the race with a time of 4:08.86.
  • Loras’ Frank Day earned the individual title in the 60-meter dash as he finished with a personal best time of 6.88.
  • Eli Etherton of Nebraska Wesleyan matched his prelim time of 7.96 which is the new championship record in the 60-meter hurdles. This mark sits at No. 3 on the NCAA Division III indoor performance list.
  • Winning the 400-meter run, Dubuque’s JoJo Frost stook on top of the podium finishing with a time of 49.37.
  • Joe Franke of Loras was crowned the champion in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.13.
  • Wartburg’s Jensen Clapp made it to the top of the podium, claiming the title in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.19.
  • Simpson’s Spencer Moon broke the facility and championship record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:16.11. This is his second-straight individual title in the 3,000-meter run.
  • The Central 4x800-meter relay team consisting of Blake Creed, Adam Sylvia, Jack Brown, and Noah Jorgenson broke the facility record, finishing in 7:45.95.
  • In the 4x400-meter relay, Dubuque’s JoJo Frost, Otis Patterson, Andrew Hutchinson, and Kobe Howell claimed first place, finishing in 3:19.87.

Women’s Day 1 Highlights
  • Grace Alley found herself at the top of the podium in the Pentathlon for the third-straight year, defending her 2022 and 2023 Indoor championships titles, scoring 3,604 points.
  • Loras’ Emma Seipel claimed first place in the women’s long jump, for the third-straight year, but first in a Duhawk uniform. She jumped 5.77 meters to earn her third title in as many years.
  • In women’s shot put, Lily Meester of Wartburg found herself at the top of the podium as she finished with a toss of 13.64 meters.
  • In the 5,000-meter run, Megan Johnson of Central grabbed first place, running a 17.02.79. This time sets the newest conference championship mark. Along with Johnson, Wartburg’s Aubrie Fisher and Shaelyn Hostager, as well as Simpson’s Lara Kallem all finished under the previous championship record of 17.13.93.
  • In the 60-meter hurdles, Wartburg’s JoJo Tyynismaa ran a time of 8.94 to grab the top qualifying spot for tomorrow’s finals.
  • Emma Seipel for the Duhawks had the best time in the prelims for the 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line with a time of 7.75.
  • The distance medley relay title went to Wartburg’s team of Haley Meyer, Leah Cherry, Rachel Nagel, and Ellie Meyer who ran it with a time of 11:37.14.
  • Dubuque’s Meghan Prohaska found herself on top of the podium in the pole vault for the second-straight year as she cleared 3.47 meters.

Men’s Day 1 Highlights
  • Through four of the seven events in the heptathlon, Simpson’s Ulysses Patterson leads the field with 2,673 total points as the final three events finish tomorrow.
  • The Duhawk’s Raymond Venditti cleared 4.88 meters in the pole vault and won the gold medal for his second-straight year.
  • Simpson’s Spencer Moon claimed the fastest time in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:49.07.
  • In the 60-meter hurdles prelims, Eli Etherton of Nebraska Wesleyan had the fastest time with 7.96. Etherton set a new championship record and will look to improve on that in the finals tomorrow. Along with Etherton, Simpson’s Max Cleveland also finished under the previous championship record as he ran an 8.05 prelim today.
  • In the 60-meter dash, Loras’ Dayvion Foreman had the best prelim time as he crossed the line in 6.92.
  • Shot put saw Loras’ Holden Murphy at the top of the podium with a throw of 16.89 meters. This mark currently sits at No. 10 on the NCAA Division III Indoor Qualifying List.
  • The long jump gold medal went to Derik Bunten of Loras following a jump of 7.28 meters, which is the eighth best mark in Division III this season.
  • In the distance medley relay, the Loras Duhawks team of Jacob Belha, Carson Vaske, Joe Franke, and Ryan Harvey finished with a time of 10:03.16 which is the ninth best mark in Division III this season.

The Conference dates back to December 8, 1922, when representatives from 12 colleges got together and formed the "Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Association." Honoring its heritage in Iowa and its expansion outside the state, the American Rivers Conference brand was established on August 9, 2018, to build on the academic and athletic success provided by its legacy, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The A-R-C has nine full-time members: Buena Vista University, Central College, Coe College, University of Dubuque, Loras College, Luther College, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Simpson College, and Wartburg College.
