CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The 2024 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Competitive Cheer and Dance Championship will take place Sunday, February 18 in Waverly, Iowa. Wartburg College will host the second annual conference championship event inside Levick Arena with competition beginning at 11:00 a.m.
This year’s event will feature six divisions: Dance (3 categories: Hip-Hop, Jazz, Pom) and Cheer (3 categories: 5-person Group Stunt, Game Day, 2.5-Minute).
The A-R-C Competitive Dance Conference Champion will be decided by an average score from the Pom and Jazz routines. A divisional winner will be crowned in each of the three Dance categories (Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Pom) in addition to the overall A-R-C Dance champion.
The A-R-C Competitive Cheer Champion will be decided by the score of the 2.5-minute routine; with less than the required minimum number of teams competing (5), the competitive cheerleading event will be held as an invitational this year. A divisional winner will be crowned in the 5-person Group Stunt and Game Day categories, with the A-R-C Competitive Cheer Invitational Champion being named from the 2.5-minute routine.
At last year’s dance championship, the Central Dutch left Indianola with two first-place finishes to become the overall champion. The Dutch earned first-place finishes in Jazz and Hip-Hop while finishing third in Pom. At the cheer invitational last year, Wartburg College came away with first place after finishing first in the 2.5-minute routine and 5-person Group Stunt.

About the American Rivers Conference
The Conference dates back to December 8, 1922, when representatives from 12 colleges got together and formed the "Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Association." Honoring its heritage in Iowa and its expansion outside the state, the American Rivers Conference brand was established on August 9, 2018, to build on the academic and athletic success provided by its legacy, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The A-R-C has nine full-time members: Buena Vista University, Central College, Coe College, University of Dubuque, Loras College, Luther College, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Simpson College, and Wartburg College.
