Coe's Ridenour, Loras' Brown, NWU's Carpenter Named A-R-C Football Players of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Wartburg College men’s soccer player Brennon Woody (Grimes, Iowa/Dallas Center-Grimes) and Buena Vista University women’s soccer player Chloe Lippert (Sioux Falls, S.D./Brandon Valley) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 17, 2023. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and volleyball.

Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player of the Week19488
Chloe Lippert, Buena Vista University
Jr., D, Sioux Falls, S.D./Brandon Valley
  • Lippert guided Buena Vista to a 1-1-0 week with a 6-0 win over Maranatha Baptist and a 4-1 loss to Ripon.
  • The junior defender recorded the Beavers first hat trick since 2016 with her three goals against Marantha Baptist on only three shots.
  • She played 137 minutes over the two contests, including all 90 minutes versus Ripon.
  • Lippert currently ranks fourth among conference opponents for total points this season, 12.
  • Buena Vista improves their record to 2-4 overall.
  • The Beavers will be back on the field this Tuesday against Faith Baptist Bible and head to Dubuque to face Loras in their opening conference match.
  • The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native is earning her first-career Offensive Player of the Week honor in her career, and the Beavers first honor since 2015.

Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week19495
Brennon Woody, Wartburg College
Fifth Year, GK, Grimes, Iowa/Dallas Center-Grimes
  • Woody helped guide the Knight defense to a 0-0 draw against No. 25-ranked North Park.
  • The fifth-year goalkeeper played all 90 minutes and made five crucial saves in the draw on the road.
  • His biggest save of the day came in the first half on a penalty kick to keep the match scoreless.
  • He faced nine shots in the contest.
  • Wartburg’s defense has not allowed any goals in four out of their last five matches with Woody as the goalkeeper in each match.
  • This shutout marks the third for Woody this season.
  • The Knights take the field again on Tuesday night when they travel to Wisconsin-Platteville then Wartburg opens conference play Saturday in Waverly versus Dubuque.
  • The Knights move their record to 4-0-2.
  • The Grimes native is garnering his fourth-career Defensive Player of the Week award (4/12/21, 9/6/22, 10/24/22, 9/1/23).

Men’s Cross Country – Runner of the Week19500
Ryan Harvey, Loras College
Jr., Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin
  • Harvey finished 23rd out of 138 runners with a time of 25:32.2 (5 miles) at the National Catholic Invitational at Notre Dame.
  • The junior finished 1:27.4 behind first place.
  • He guided the Duhawks to a fourth place finish out of ten teams.
  • Loras will be back in action on September 30 when they compete at the Dan Huston Invitational hosted by Wartburg College.
  • The Bartlett, Illinois native is garnering his second-career Runner of the Week honor (9/20/21, 9/18/23).

Women’s Cross Country – Runner of the Week19497
Lexi Brown, Wartburg College
Sr., New London, Iowa/New London
  • Brown finished first out of 111 runners with a time of 21:39.7 (6k) at the Redbird Invite hosted by Division I, Illinois State University.
  • The senior finished 2.1 seconds ahead of second place.
  • The No. 1-ranked Knights finished second out of 12 teams with 59 points.
  • Wartburg and Brown are off until September 30 when they host the Dan Huston Invite at Max Cross Country Course in Waverly, Iowa.
  • The New London, Iowa native is collecting her first-career Runner of the Week award.

Football – Defensive Player of the Week19489
Ben Ridenour, Coe College
Fifth Year, LB, Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware
  • Ridenour led the Coe College Kohawks to the win over Central College to move to 1-0 in conference play.
  • The Kohawks defense, led by Ridenour, only allowed 11 points to the Dutch.
  • He recorded eight total tackles, including four solo, and 1.5 tackles for loss.
  • Additionally, he added one sack.
  • The fifth-year linebacker collected one of the four interceptions on the day.
  • Coe will host Nebraska Wesleyan for their first home conference game of the season.
  • The RV Kohawks are 3-0 overall and 1-0 in A-R-C action.
  • The Manchester, Iowa native is picking up his first Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Football – Offensive Player of the Week19499
Da’Mani Brown, Loras College
Jr., WR, Fort Meyers, Fla./Fort Meyers
  • Brown led the Loras College Duhawks to a 44-29 win over Luther College on the opening weekend of conference action.
  • The junior wide receiver recorded nine receptions for 108 yards that included three touchdowns.
  • His longest score came from 34 yards out.
  • Loras will travel across town to face Dubuque on Saturday.
  • The Fort Meyers, Florida native is earning his first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Football – Special Teams Player of the Week19492
Anthony Carpenter, Nebraska Wesleyan University
Fr., KR, Tucson, Ariz./Pueblo
  • Carpenter led the Prairie Wolves to an opening conference win over Simpson on Saturday by a score of 21-13.
  • The kick returner had one return for 28 yards.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan is off to their best start since 2019 with a 3-0 mark.
  • The Prairie Wolves will travel to Cedar Rapids to take on RV Coe College on Saturday.
  • The freshman is earning his first-career Special Teams Player of the Week accolade, and Nebraska Wesleyan’s first since 2018.

Women’s Golf – Golfer of the Week19490
Megan Tanghe, Coe College
Sr., East Moline, Ill./Alleman
  • Tanghe picked up individual medalist honors at the Buena Vista Invite over the weekend.
  • The senior fired rounds of 75 and 78 to finish with a 36-hole total of 153 to best the field by one stroke.
  • She led the Kohawks to the team win with a two-day team total of 673.
  • Both of Tanghe’s round over the weekend were the lowest on their respective days.
  • The Kohawks will be back on the course this Saturday and Sunday when they compete against Mount Mercy and Loras in a triangular at Hunters Ridge in Marion, Iowa and Ellis in Cedar Rapids.
  • This marks the East Moline, Illinois native’s third career Golfer of the Week honor (9/13/21, 9/20/21, 9/18/23).

Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player of the Week19493
Ronaldo Ordaz, Simpson College
Sr., F, Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown
  • The senior forward led the Simpson Storm to a 1-1-0 week.
  • The Storm defeated Cornell College (3-0) and fell to Knox College (4-2).
  • Ordaz scored or assisted on all five of Simpson’s goals across the two contests, including scoring both goals in the loss to Knox.
  • He currently leads the league in points, with 17, and is tied at the top for goals, with seven.
  • This is the Marshalltown, Iowa native’s second-career Offensive Player of the Week honor (10/24/22, 9/18/23).

Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week19494
Lani Mears, Simpson College
Sr., GK, Burlington, Iowa/Burlington Notre Dame
  • Mears helped the Simpson Storm go 1-1-0 on the week with a win over Grinnell (2-0) and a loss to MSOE (1-0).
  • The senior goalkeeper faced 23 shots between the two games, only allowing three goals.
  • She played all 180 minutes against two regionally-ranked opponents.
  • Simpson improves their record to 5-1 overall as conference action kicks off for the Storm on Saturday when they host Central.
  • The Burlington, Iowa native is earning her second-career Defensive Player of the Week honor (10/31/22, 9/18/23).

Women’s Tennis – Player of the Week19491
Abby Ostermann, Luther College
So., Menasha, Wis./Kimberly
  • Ostermann went 1-0 at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at No. 3 doubles against Wartburg in a conference match over the weekend.
  • The sophomore defeated Georgia Nissen 6-2, 6-2 in singles.
  • She paired up with Riley O’Donnell to take down Hayden Evans/Bailey Sinnwell 8-0 in doubles.
  • Luther improves their record to 4-0 overall and 4-0 in league play.
  • Luther will be back on the courts on Tuesday when they host Coe College in a crucial A-R-C match.
  • The Menasha, Wisconsin native is picking up her first Player of the Week honor in her career.

Volleyball – Offensive Player of the Week19498
Allison Feigenbaum, Wartburg College
Jr., MB, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar
  • Wartburg College middle blocker, Allison Feigenbaum, helped the Knights to a 2-2 weekend at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tournament.
  • She recorded 31 kills, with a .364 hitting percentage.
  • The junior recorded three service aces and additionally had 12 total blocks.
  • Her best game on the weekend came in game one when she recorded a hitting percentage of .595 against Grinnell.
  • She was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance in the four games.  
  • Wartburg’s record moves to 4-8 on the season as they are set to host their home invitational this weekend where they will face Wisconsin-River Falls, Carthage, and St. Norbert.
  • The Marion, Iowa native is collecting her third-career Offensive Player of the Week accolade (9/26/22, 10/11/22, 9/18/23).

Volleyball – Defensive Player of the Week19487
Molly Bense, Buena Vista University
Sr., Libero, Elk River, Minn./Elk River
  • Senior, Molly Bense, guided the Beavers to a 3-1 week, including travelling to the Wisconsin-Eau Claire tournament.
  • Buena Vista picked up wins over Martin Luther (3-0), Illinois Wesleyan (3-1), and Wisconsin-Superior (3-1), while falling to Concordia-Morehead (3-1)
  • She recorded 40 digs during the tournament, including a season-best 19 digs during the four-set win over Wisconsin-Superior.
  • Additionally, she recorded 12 assists and five service aces.
  • Buena Vista will be on the court one time this week when they host Saint Mary’s (Minn.).
  • The Beavers improved their record to 6-6 on the season.
  • The Elk River, Minnesota native is picking up her first career Player of the Week honor, and the first since 2019 for the Beavers.
