WP - Hannah Ausenhus
With another pitching duel in the circle, the Kohawks jumped out first again in game two of the super regional when
Madi Parson singled up the middle to bring in
Ruby Kappeler to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Pushing in the insurance run in the fifth inning was Parson again, but this time
Heather Boeckenstendt crossed the plate, giving Coe the 2-0 advantage. Hiram did not give up, making Kohawks fans nervous in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Terriers got the bases loaded, but were only able to have one run across the plate.
Hannah Ausenhus earned the win for the Kohawks after pitching a complete game while only allowing four hits and her defense backed her up consistently.
Coe heads to the National Championship ranked No. 21 in the country, and their first round opponent is to be determined. The National Championships will take place at Taylor Field in Marshall, Texas as East Texas Baptist serves as the host on June 1-7.
Coe is the first American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) team to advance to the Softball Championship since 2018 when Luther advanced. First year head coach and A-R-C Coach of the Year,
Jake Koolbeck, is taking the Kohawks back for the first time in 14 years.
Coe began their NCAA journey after earning an at-large bid to the tournament after falling short in the A-R-C Tournament. The Kohawks went on the road to UW-Whitewater for regional action, where they defeated Whitewater twice in the championship game to win regionals and earn the right to host super regionals on their home field.
Stay tuned for additional updates as the Kohawks travel to Texas for the 2023 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
