CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The No. 22-ranked Coe College Kohawks took game one of the best-of-three Super Regionals series over the Hiram College Terriers. The Kohawks only need to win one game on Saturday to advance to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship in Texas while Hiram will need to win two to advance.

A slow start with errors on both sides early in the game, but the Kohawks got their bats going in the bottom of the fifth when they exploded for four runs.
Addie Menke drove in
Marissa Vodicka to get on the board first followed by leadoff hitter,
Heather Boeckenstedt, bringing in
Rylee Newhard.
Skylar Stookey with a single to left field added to runs from Boeckenstedt and
Nicki Wood. The Kohawks continued to have momentum, especially after centerfielder
Ruby Kappeler robbed Hiram out of a home run after catching the ball nearly over the outfield fence.
Gabrielle Buckridge hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Vodicka for extra insurance runs as the Kohawks won game one of the Super Regionals in shut out fashion. Pitcher
Ellie Thurow was in the circle for all six actions of work and finished a complete game shutout.
First pitch of game two of the Super Regional will be thrown at 1:00p on Saturday from Clark Field on the campus of Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. If Hiram forces the if necessary game, it will start at approximately 3:30p.
First year head coach and American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Coach of the Year, Jake Koolbeck, is looking to return the Kohawks to the national stage at the NCAA Championships for the first time in 14 years and only the second time in program history.
