Coe and Loras Advance to 2022-23 A-R-C Men's Basketball Tournament Semifinals

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Men’s Basketball Tournament semifinal games are set for Thursday, February 23. The No. 4-seed Loras College Duhawks (16-10, 9-7 A-R-C) and the No. 6-seed Coe College Kohawks (14-12, 7-9 A-R-C) advance to the semifinals.
 
A strong offensive performance propelled the No. 6-seed Kohawks to a 78-60 victory over the No. 3-seed Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves (16-10, 11-5 A-R-C). Coe shot 49.0% (25-for-51) from the field and 71.4% (20-for-28) from the charity stripe. The Kohawks were led by three double-digit scorers in Cael Schmitt (20), TJ Schnurr (20), and Greg Hall (13). The top rebounder for the Kohawks was John Steffen, pulling down six rebounds. The Prairie Wovles were led in scoring by Peter Lash (12) and Jack Groeteke (10). Lash had a game-high eight rebounds in the quarterfinal match-up.
 
The Duhawks were able to hold off the No. 5-seeded Wartburg College Knights (11-15, 8-8 A-R-C) 85-80 to advance to the semifinal round of the A-R-C tournament. Loras outrebounded the Knights 31-26, including 12 offensive boards. The Duhawks shot 49.3% (33-for-67) from the field, 33.3% (10-for-30) from three-point range, and 75.0% (9-for-12) from the free throw line. Loras had four players that scored in double-digits, Ali Sabet (16), Tyler Bass (15), Alex Singleton (15), and Myles Barry (13). Singleton paced the Duhawks on the boards, pulling down nine rebounds. Scoring 29 points for the Knights was Jack Molstead and Codey Hicks scored 15 points. Marshun Williams was the leading rebounder for the Knights, recording five.
 
Coe college will make the trip to Dubuque, Iowa for a match-up against No. 2-seeded University of Dubuque Spartans (19-6, 12-4 A-R-C). Game time from Stoltz Sports Center in Dubuque is set for 7:00 p.m. The other semifinal game will see the No. 1-seed Central College Dutch (18-6, 13-3 A-R-C) host the Loras Duhawks. Tip time is also set for 7:00 p.m. from P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium in Pella, Iowa. The Spartans and Dutch each earned first-round byes as the tournament’s top two seeds.
