CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Simpson College women’s basketball player
Haley Rasmussen (Atlantic, Iowa/Atlantic) and Coe College men’s basketball player
Bennett Sherry (Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, November 26, 2023.
Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Haley Rasmussen, Simpson College
Jr., G, Atlantic, Iowa/Atlantic
- Rasmussen averaged 20 points per game across a 2-1 week for the Simpson College Storm.
- Beginning conference play, the Storm picked up their first win over Central (63-56). In non-conference action, Simpson defeated Wisconsin-La Crosse (67-56) and fell to Wisconsin-River Falls (61-51).
- Against the Dutch, Rasmussen was 5-for-8 (63%) from beyond the arc and shot 44% from the field to record 21 points.
- Additionally, she recorded four rebounds, three steals, and two assists versus Central.
- Adding up 28 points over UW-La Crosse, the junior shot a blazing 70% from beyond the arc (7-for-10) while also shooting 56% from the field.
- In the lone loss of the week for Simpson, Rasmussen recorded 11 points, two rebounds, and one assist.
- She recorded back-to-back 20-point performances for the first time in her career.
- Simpson’s record sits at 3-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
- The Storm will be back on the hardwood Wednesday night when they host Coe and then again on Saturday when they host Dubuque in two conference contests this week.
- Rasmussen is a 2022-23 second-team All-Conference performer.
- This marks the Atlantic, Iowa native’s first-career Player of the Week honor.
Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Bennett Sherry, Coe College

- Sherry led the Coe College Kohawks to a perfect 2-0 week with an impressive & efficient offensive display in both games.
- Coe defeated Loras College in the A-R-C opener 76-74 on Tuesday evening and then followed up with a 98-56 victory over Edgewood College on Saturday.
- The junior forward totaled 37 points and helped the Kohawks improve to 6-1 on the season.
- He opened the week with 15 points and five rebounds on 7-for-9 shooting, adding two assists and a block.
- He followed up with a career and record-breaking performance against Edgewood, scoring a career-high 22 points on a perfect 10-for-10 shooting.
- Sherry became the first Kohawk in school history to post a flawless shooting percentage with at least eight buckets made.
- The Coe Kohawks will take the floor on Wednesday in Indianola, Iowa for another conference match-up against Simpson College.
- The Fitchburg, Wisconsin native is garnering his first Player of the Week honors in his career.
