CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Central College football player
Reid Pakkebier (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) and Central College women’s golfer
Delaney Underwood (Mitchellville, Iowa/Colfax-Mingo) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 4, 2022. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and volleyball.
Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Golf – Golfer of the Week
Delaney Underwood, Central College
Sr., Mitchellville, Iowa/Colfax-Mingo
- Underwood took home medalist honors at the Norse/Kohawk Invitational at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike, Iowa.
- The Dutch finished 2nd of 15 teams scoring a two-day total of 309-295-604 to set 18-hole and 36-hole school records.
- The senior shot rounds of 76-69-145 (+1), four shots clear of second place.
- Underwood topped her career-best by five shots and broke the Central school-record by two shots, previously set in 2008.
- This marks the Mitchellville, Iowa native’s first career Golfer of the Week honor.
Male Athlete of the Week – Football – Defensive Player of the Week
Reid Pakkebier, Central College
So., LB, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy
- In the opening game of the 2022 season, the Dutch collected a 44-13 against St. Olaf College.
- Sophomore linebacker, Reid Pakkebier led the Dutch defense that only surrendered 87 yards of rushing.
- The sophomore recorded one interception and one sack.
- Pakkebier registered 17 tackles, seven of which were solo tackles, in the win.
- The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native is garnering his first-career Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Men’s Cross Country – Runner of the Week
Christopher Collet, Wartburg College
Sr., Verona, Ill./Seneca
- Collet finished first out of 48 runners with a time of 18:33.6 (6k) at the John Kurtt Invite in Waverly, Iowa.
- The senior helped Wartburg claim a victory in the season-opening meet.
- This marks Collet’s first-career Runner of the Week honors.
- Christopher Collet is a 2019, 2020, and 2021 All-Conference performer while also adding a ninth-place finish at nationals in 2021.
Women’s Cross Country – Runner of the Week
Aubrie Fisher, Wartburg College
Sr., Ackley, Iowa/AGWSR
- Fisher finished first out of 24 runners with a time of 13:34 (4k) at the John Kurtt Invite in Waverly, Iowa.
- The senior helped Wartburg claim a victory in the season opener.
- Fisher is a three-time All-Conference performer in addition to a sixth-place finish in 2021 at the national championships.
- This is Fisher's second-career Runner of the Week award (11/9/20, 9/6/22)
Football – Offensive Player of the Week
Ryan Neu, Central College
Jr., WR, West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley
- Neu led the Dutch to a 44-13 win over St. Olaf College.
- The West Des Moines, Iowa native collected a career-high 215 receiving yards.
- The junior wide receiver led the Dutch offense with his two rushing touchdowns from 70 and 44 yards.
- The is Neu’s first-career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Football – Special Teams Player of the Week
Ben Bryant, Wartburg College
Jr., Kick Returner, Peosta, Iowa/Western Dubuque
- Bryant was a vital part for the Knights on special teams and punt returns as they cruised to a 34-7 victory over Monmouth College.
- The Western Dubuque prep returned six punts for a total of 158 yards, with a long of 41 yards.
- Additionally, he returned one kickoff for 23 yards.
- This is Bryant’s second-career Special Teams Player of the Week award (9/6/2021).
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week
Brennon Woody, Wartburg College
Sr., GK, Grimes, Iowa/Dallas Center-Grimes
- Woody recorded two shutouts in the two opening games of the season for the Knights.
- The Knights have started 2-0-1 to begin their 2022 season.
- He played all 180 minutes over the two-match week.
- Wartburg played to a 0-0 draw against Gustavus Adolphus College and followed up with a win over No. 15 St. Olaf College (2-1).
- This is Woody’s second-career Defensive Player of the Week award (4/12/21).
- The Grimes, Iowa native was a 2020 (Spring 2021) A-R-C Honorable Mention honoree.
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player of the Week
Diego Rodriguez, Loras College
So., M, Fraijanes, Guatemala/APDE Studio
- Rodriguez scored the game winning goal coming off the bench in a 1-0 win over No. 21 Ohio Wesleyan.
- In the season opener against Capital University, he played 48 minutes to assist the Duhawks to a 1-0 victory.
- This is Rodriguez’s first-career Offensive Player of the Week award.
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week
Marissa Lopez, Wartburg College
Sr., GK, Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial
- Lopez helped the Knights to a 2-0 week with a 1-0 win over St. Olaf College, and 2-0 win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
- She combined for 5 saves over the two games, pitching shutouts in both.
- She played all 90 minutes of both games.
- The Ankeny, Iowa native is earning her first-career Defensive Player of the Week award.
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player of the Week
Ryleigh O’Brien, Loras College
Sr., F, Hampton, Ill./United Township
- O’Brien paced Coe with two goals in their 6-1 win over St. Norbert College in the season-opener.
- She scored the lone goal for the Duhawks in an all tied up contest against Dominican University (Ill.).
- The Hampton, Ill. native notched four points in 51 minutes of action against St. Norbert.
- On the week she recorded 141 minutes played for the Duhawks.
- O’Brien is picking up her second-career Offensive Player of the Week honor (11/8/21).
Women’s Tennis – Player of the Week
Madison Schultz, Coe College
So., Jasper, Ga./James Madison
- The reigning A-R-C MVP, Madison Schultz, went a perfect 4-0 to begin the 2022-23 conference campaign.
- At the No. 1 singles slot, Schultz defeated Central’s Jennifer Larson 6-0, 6-0 and Simpson’s Bella Tranquilino 6-1, 6-2.
- The duo of Schultz and Jania Carter-Johnson, also at the No. 1 spot, defeated Central’s Alex Griggs/Jenna Hernandez 8-4 and Simpson’s Donni Kinghorn/Kennedi Wright 8-3.
- The Kohawks are off to a 2-0 start in league play.
- Madison Schultz was the 2021 A-R-C Most Valuable Player.
- The Jasper, Georgia native is collecting her second-career Player of the Week honor (9/20/21, 9/6/22).
Volleyball – Offensive Player of the Week
Jessica Jacobs, Simpson College
Sr., OH, Janesville, Iowa/Waverly Shell-Rock
- Simpson outside hitter, Jessica Jacobs, helped lead the Storm to a 3-1 week, with the lone loss to No. 16-ranked UW-Whitewater (3-0) at the Wisconsin Blast tournament.
- The Storm defeated Martin Luther (3-1), Beloit College (3-1) and Ripon (3-1).
- The senior led the league with 50 kills while hitting .304 across the four contests.
- In the 3-1 win over Beloit, Jacobs tallied 17 kills with just four errors in 25 attempts.
- In addition, Jacobs recorded 16 digs, five blocks, and three assists.
- Simpson senior, Jacobs, is a 2021 All-Conference performer.
- The Janesville, Iowa native is picking up her first-career Offensive Player of the Week award.
Volleyball – Defensive Player of the Week
Sara Hoskins, Loras College
Jr., S, Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley
- Junior Sara Hoskins helped lead the Duhawks to a 3-1 week, with the lone loss to No. 16 UW-Whitewater.
- The Loras setter tallied 26 digs and eight blocks over the weekend.
- Additionally, Hoskins dealt nine service aces, which tied for the team lead this weekend.
- The junior for the Duhawks also recorded 10 kills on 22 attempts.
- Hoskins dished up 71 assists on the weekend to help the Duhawks to a 3-1 start to regular season play.
- Hoskins is a 2021 Honorable Mention performer.
- The Bettendorf, Iowa native is picking up her first career Player of the Week honor.
