Wartburg's O'Neill and Central's Ketchum and Bannister Collect A-R-C Weekly Football Honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Coe College volleyball player Kate Tidman (Bondurant, Iowa/Bondurant-Farrar) and Luther College men’s soccer player Raul Ferrandez (Crevillent, Spain) have been named American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 12, 2022. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and volleyball.
Female Athlete of the Week – Volleyball – Offensive Player of the Week17747
Kate Tidman, Coe College
Sr., Pin, Bondurant, Iowa/Bondurant-Farrar
  • Tidman helped lead the Kohawks to a 3-1 weekend during their annual home tournament and a win over Cornell on Wednesday, September 7.
  • The Kohawks defeated Cornell (3-0), St. Olaf (3-2), Carroll (3-0), and Augustana (3-1) and lost to UW-Platteville (2-3).
  • The senior racked up 61 kills across the five matches, posting a hitting percentage over .270.
  • In addition, Tidman recorded 58 digs, seven block assists and five aces.
  • The Kohawks improved to 6-2 on the season.
  • Tidman is a three-time All-Conference performer.
  • The Bondurant native is picking up her fourth-career Offensive Player of the Week award (9/16/19, 3/22/21, 10/4/21, 9/12/22).
Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week17748
Raul Ferrandez, Luther College
So., D, Crevillent, Spain
  • Ferrandez helped lead the Norse to a 2-0-0 weekend, with wins over Knox (4-0) and Macalester (1-0).
  • The sophomore defender played all 90 minutes in the shutout victory over Macalester.
  • Ferrandez helped the Norse defense hold its opponents to a combined 11 shots and four corner kick opportunities all weekend.
  • The Luther defense has not conceded a goal since a September 3rd tie with St. Norbert College.
  • The Norse improved to 4-0-1 on the season.
  • Ferrandez is a 2021 Honorable Mention performer.
  • The Crevillent, Spain native is picking up his first Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and Male Athlete of the Week accolades.
Men’s Cross Country – Runner of the Week17749
Andrew Klein, Simpson College
Jr., Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln
  • Klein finished second out of 127 runners with a career-best time of 25:43.7 (8k) at the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College.
  • Klein was the top A-R-C finisher at the Les Duke Invitational.
  • The junior led the Storm to a third place finish out of eight teams.
  • This marks Klein’s first-career Runner of the Week honor.
Women’s Cross Country – Runner of the Week17750
Caroline McMartin, Central College
Jr., Pella, Iowa/Pella
  • McMartin finished first out of 93 runners with a time of 22:53.8 (6k), 25 seconds ahead of second place at the Les Duke Invitational.
  • Central won the team title with 47 points.
  • The Dutch junior is a two-time All-Conference performer.
  • The Pella, Iowa native is collecting her second-career Runner of the Week award (9/27/21, 9/12/22).
Football – Offensive Player of the Week17752
Brady Ketchum, Central College
So., QB, Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon
  • Ketchum led the No.12-ranked Dutch to a 31-13 win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday, September 12.
  • The Mount Vernon native threw for three touchdowns all coming in the second quarter.
  • Ketchum completed 19-of-30 passes leading to 236 passing yards.
  • The sophomore quarterback led the Dutch offense to 366 yards of total offense.
  • Central improved their record to 2-0 heading into the first weekend of league action.
  • This is Ketchum’s first-career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Football – Defensive Player of the Week17751
Cameron Bannister, Central College
Sr., DB, State Center, Iowa/West Marshall
  • Bannister helped the No.12-ranked Dutch to a 31-13 victory over Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
  • The senior had two interceptions in the fourth quarter to seal the deal for Central.
  • Bannister also recorded eight tackles, five of which were solo, and forced a fumble.
  • Central improved their record to 2-0 heading into the first weekend of league action.
  • The senior defensive back is a 2021 Second-Team All-Conference performer.
  • The State Center native is picking up his first-career Defensive Player of the Week accolade.
Football – Special Teams Player of the Week17753
Cael O’Neill, Wartburg College
Jr., K, Solon, Iowa/Solon
  • O’Neill helped lead the Knights to a 27-0 victory over Wisconsin-Stout.
  • The junior was 3-3 in PATs and 2-2 in field goals.
  • In addition, O’Neill had six kickoffs tallying 249 yards, averaging 41.5 yards per kickoff.
  • The Knights improved to 2-0 heading into the first weekend of conference play.
  • This is the Solon native’s first-career Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
Women’s Golf – Golfer of the Week17754
Ashley DeLong, Wartburg College
Sr., Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake
  • DeLong was the top A-R-C finisher, tying for 10th out of 132, at the Wartburg Fall Invite.
  • The Knights tied for 13th of 22 teams, scoring a two-day total of 341-236-667.
  • DeLong shot rounds of 79-73-152 (+8).
  • The senior for the Knights is a two-time All-Conference Performer.
  • The Clear Lake native is picking up her first Women’s golfer of the Week honor.
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player of the Week17755
Marcos Vila, Luther College
5th Year, F, Madrid, Spain/I.E.S. San Fernando
  • Vila helped lead the Norse to a 2-0-0 weekend, with wins over Knox (4-0) and Macalester (1-0).
  • Vila went 2-2 on penalty kicks, scoring the first goal and game winner against both Knox and Macalester.
  • The fifth-year forward moved to seventh all-time in Luther history with 41 career goals and tenth in career points (99 points).
  • The Norse improved to 4-0-1 on the season.
  • Vila is a three-time All-Conference performer in addition to being named 2020 (Spring 2021) Offensive Most Valuable Player.
  • The Madrid, Spain native is garnering his third-career Offensive Player of the Week honor (11/5/18, 10/4/21, 9/12/22).
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week17756

  • Mize helped pace a Knights defense that allowed just one goal over three matches this year.
  • The Knights defeated Saint Mary’s University (1-0), Illinois Wesleyan (3-0), and Dominican (3-1).
  • The sophomore defender played all 90 minutes in the three contests.
  • Wartburg improved to 5-0 on the season.
  • The Bloomington, Illinois native is picking up her first-career women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player of the Week17757
Cassie Nash, Simpson College
Sr., F, Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast
  • Nash paced Simpson with three goals and two assists over a span of three matches.
  • The Storm went 2-1 with wins over Knox (5-0) and University of Dallas (3-0) and a loss to Texas-Dallas (1-0).
  • Nash tallied eight points on the week.
  • Simpson improved to 2-2-1 overall this season.
  • The senior forward is a two-time All-Conference performer.
  • This is the Lincoln native’s second-career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Women’s Tennis – Player of the Week17759
Anna Burt, Nebraska Wesleyan University

  • Anna Burt went a perfect 4-0 to begin her 2022-23 conference campaign.
  • At the No. 4 singles slot, Burt defeated Central’s Brianna Lindstrom 6-2, 6-1 and Simpson’s Carina Covington 6-1, 6-4.
  • The duo of Burt and Kailey Jay-Kissler, at the No. 2 spot, defeated Central’s Jennifer Larson/Madi Whalen 8-4 and Simpson’s Covington/Kira Anderson 8-0.
  • The Prairie Wolves are off to a 2-0 start in league play.
  • The Lincoln native is garnering her first-career women’s tennis Player of the Week honor.
Volleyball – Defensive Player of the Week17760
Caroline Kluesner, Wartburg College
Sr., L, Farley, Iowa/Western Dubuque
  • Senior Caroline Kluesner led the Knights in digs on a 1-2 weekend.
  • The Knights lost to Wisconsin Lutheran (2-3) and UW-River Falls (1-3) before picking up a 3-0 win over Monmouth to end the weekend.
  • Kluesner tallied 63 digs over the three matches without recording an error.
  • Additionally, Kluesner recorded 11 assists and six aces.
  • The Knights have a 4-3 record heading into league play.
  • This is the Farley native’s first-career Defensive Player of the Week accolade.
