STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Coe College baseball team was in the 2022 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament at the Stevens Point Regional hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, representing the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C). The Kohawks split their opening two games, losing to North Central (Ill.) 12-8 and winning their first elimination game against Lawrence University 6-1. They faced Wisconsin-Stevens Point in their second elimination game of the day and fell short, 10-5.
After winning the A-R-C tournament and earning the conference’s automatic berth to the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament, the Kohawks finish their 2022 campaign with a 22-21 overall record and 12-12 in conference play.
Game 1: Coe 8, North Central (Ill.) 12
In game one of the regional round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament, the Kohawks fell short to North Central (Ill.) 12-8. Coe had the momentum on their side to start the game in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs.
TJ Johnson and
Reid Rausch were both hit by pitches to get on base for the Kohawks and later advanced to second and third on a wild pitch.
Jacob Brosius doubled to center field to score Johnson and Rausch to put the first runs on the board. The next batter,
Jack Allison, sent a home run to center field to increase the Kohawk lead to 4-0. The bottom half of the first saw the North Central Cardinals score two runs. It wasn’t until the bottom of the fourth inning when North Central recorded two home runs to tie the game at 4-4. It was a back-and-forth game with the game tied 7-7 going into the ninth inning. The Kohawks were able to put up a run on a
Tyce Johnson single to bring home Elliot. The bottom of the ninth inning saw North Central score a run to tie the game at eight with one out. With the bases loaded, the Cardinals launched a grand slam to end the game.
TJ Deardorff was the starting pitcher for the Kohawks, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up five runs on seven hits while also striking out five.

Game 2: Lawrence 1, Coe 6
Coe played the first elimination game against Lawrence University, Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. Lawrence and Coe held each other scoreless for 5.5 innings before the Kohawks put up a two spot in the bottom of the sixth.
Creighton Kreshel led off the inning with a hit by pitch and later advanced to third on an Allison single to left center. Deardorff put down a sacrifice bunt to score Kreshel and move Allison to second. Allison moved over to third on a wild pitch and scored on a
Tyler Elliot single to third base. Lawrence put up their only run of the game in the top of 7th on a lead off homerun. The Kohawks held them scoreless the rest of the game. In the eighth inning, Kreshel led off with a single and advanced to third on a Brosius bunt single. Brosius and Kreshel scored on an Allison single to put the Kohawks up 4-1. The next batter, Deardorff launched a homerun to left field to cap off the scoring, advancing Coe to the second elimination game.
Tyce Johnson picked up the win for Coe, pitching seven innings and giving up one run on four hits while striking out six.
Ethan O’Donnell picked up the save pitching the final two innings and giving up just one hit.

Game 3: UW-Stevens Point 10, Coe 5
The Kohawks advanced to their second elimination game of the day after defeating Lawrence 6-1 in the morning. The Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers came into the game after losing to North Central (Ill.) 8-2 in the winner’s bracket. Stevens Point got on the board in the top of the first inning with a solo home run to right field. The Pointers put three more on the board after a three-run home run in the second inning. Coe put up their first runs on a Jack Allison two-run home run to score Creighton Kreshel in the bottom half of the second. The Pointers put up two runs in the third, three runs in the fourth, and one run in the seventh to bring their lead to 10-2. The Kohawks were able to muster three runs in the eighth inning but fell short to Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 10-5.
