CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The No.4/5-ranked Simpson College Storm advance to the second round defeating Gustavus Adolphus and Wartburg falls to Millikin in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Simpson knocked off Gustavus Adolphus (22-5) 73-67 in Indianola, on their home court. The Storm held a 30-18 halftime lead and held off a late comeback from the Gusties. Simpson had five players in double-digits with
Cameron Kincaid and
Cassie Nash leading the way with 14 points each. League MVP,
Jenna Taylor, and
Anna Wanek each scored 12, followed by
Kia Rasmussen with 10. Kincaid and Wanek led the way on the boards for the Storm collecting seven apiece.
Simpson will face UW-Oshkosh in the second round tomorrow, Saturday, March 5. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. on the campus of Simpson College. The Oshkosh Titans received an at-large bid to the tournament, making it three-straight and the program’s 17
th overall post season appearance. The Titans took down the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors 48-42 to set up the second round match-up tomorrow night.
Wartburg fell to the Millikin Big Blue (22-6), out of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, by the score of 68-81. The Knights were led offensively by
Sara Faber with 22 points, followed by
Jaedon Murphy with 17 points. Murphy led the team with eight boards on the night. Wartburg ends the season with an overall record of 21-6 and a 13-3 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) record.
