CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Loras College women’s track & field athlete
Kassie Parker (Guttenberg, Iowa/Clayton Ridge) and Loras College men’s track & field athlete
Mike Jasa (Fairfax, Iowa/Prairie) have been named American Rivers Conference Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 6, 2022. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, men’s tennis, and wrestling.
Female Athlete of the Week - Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Performer of the Week
Kassie Parker, Loras College
Sr., Guttenberg, Iowa/Clayton Ridge
- This weekend, Parker competed in the Meyo Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
- The senior set the NCAA DIII all-time, all-conditions record in the 3,000-meter run.
- She ran 9:13.10 which took 30-seconds off of her previous school record run.
- Parker placed fourth at the meet which was an all-DI field.
- The Guttenberg, Iowa native is picking up her fourth-career Women’s Indoor Track performer of the Week honor (2/7/22, 1/24/22, 2/22/21, 3/2/20).
Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Performer of the Week
Mike Jasa, Loras College
Jr., Fairfax, Iowa/Prairie
- This weekend, Jasa competed in the Meyo Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
- The junior ran the fifth-fastest time in NCAA DIII History (all-time, all-conditions) in the 800-meter run.
- He ran a 1:49.45 and became the first Duhawk in program history to go sub-1:50.
- Jasa finished third in the race behind runners from the University of Indiana and the University of Illinois.
- The Fairfax, Iowa native is collecting his sixth-career Men’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week honor (2/7/22, 1/31/22, 12/13/21, 2/8/21, 2/3/20, 12/19/19).
Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Jarad Kruse, Coe College
Sr., F, Oskaloosa, Iowa/Oskaloosa
- Kruse helped lead the Kohawks to a 2-0 week in league play with wins over Loras (94-73) and Buena Vista (65-62).
- On the week, Kruse averaged 14 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
- The senior posted 16 points and six rebounds, while going 5-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the line in the win over Loras.
- Kruse added 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists in the victory over the Beavers.
- The Kohawks improved to 17-5 overall and 9-4 in A-R-C play.
- The senior forward is a 2020-21 All-Conference performer.
- The Oskaloosa, Iowa native is collecting his second-career Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor (2/7/22, 11/15/21).
Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Jenna Taylor, Simpson College
Gr., F, Creston, Iowa/Creston
- Taylor led the No. 5/6-ranked Storm to a 2-0 week with both victories over Luther (85-49) and (90-66).
- The graduate forward reached 1,500 career points with a 26-point performance in the first contest.
- Taylor added 15 more points to her total on Saturday’s win.
- She had six three-pointers all in the first half of Monday’s victory, while shooting 6-of-10 from behind the arc.
- Taylor averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds during the two-game span.
- The Storm improved to 19-1 overall and remains undefeated in league play (11-0).
- Taylor is a two-time All-Conference performer and was named league Most Valuable Player in 2020-21.
- This marks Taylor’s fourth this season and tenth career Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolade (2/7/22, 1/3/22, 11/29/21, 11/15/21, 2/22/21, 2/1/21, 2/10/20, 12/17/18, 11/19/18, 11/12/19).
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Performer of the Week
Kaitlyn Wilder, University of Dubuque
So., Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton
- The Spartans finished third of six teams at the Wartburg Select with 121.83 points.
- Wilder finished first out of 29 throwers in the weight throw, tossing 17.99-meters and beating second place by over three feet.
- Her efforts this weekend in the weight throw ranks No. 1 in the A-R-C and No.4 in NCAA DIII.
- The sophomore finished fifth out of 26 competitors in the shot put after throwing 13.02-meters.
- After this weekend’s performance, Wilder ranks No.6 in the A-R-C and No.22 in the shot put nationally.
- The Dunkerton, Iowa native is collecting her second-career Women’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week honor (2/7/22, 2/22/21).
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Performer of the Week
Lucas Heitz, Central College
Jr., Adel, Iowa/ADM
- Heitz competed in the Wartburg Select’s Heptathlon event and finished on top out of 13 athletes.
- The junior took the crown at the end of the event, finishing with 4655 points.
- After a strong day two, Heitz finished with 13th best heptathlon score in NCAA DIII.
- The Adel, Iowa native is garnering his first career Men’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week honor.
Men’s Tennis – Player of the Week
Jon Lansing, Coe College
Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier
- Lansing was a perfect 4-0 in Coe’s two victories against Wartburg (8-1) and UW-La Crosse (9-0).
- In the No. 2 slot singles, Lansing defeated Wartburg’s Cade Davis 6-3, 6-2 and UW-La Crosse’s Alex Moore 6-3, 6-3.
- In the No. 2 slot doubles, Lansing and Graham Peterson defeated Hunter Gerheardt and Davis of Wartburg 8-0.
- Lansing and Peterson also defeated Alex Unger and Lincoln Maher of UW-La Crosse 8-5.
- The senior is a 2021 All-Conference performer at singles and doubles.
- The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native is picking up his fourth Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honor (2/7/22, 3/1/21, 4/22/19, 3/11/19).
Wrestling – Wrestler of the Week
Brady Kyner, Wartburg College
Sr., 125lbs., Carlisle, Iowa/S.E. Warren
- No.1-ranked Wartburg College defeated No. 8 Coe 22-15, improving to 12-1 on the season, and remain undefeated in conference duals (6-0).
- Kyner, ranked No. 6, played a key role in the Knights victory by defeating No. 5 Alex Friddle by decision (6-1) at 125lbs.
- The No. 1 Knights took six of the ten weight classes.
- Kyner is a two-time All-Conference performer.
- The Carlisle, Iowa native is garnering his first-career Wrestler of the Week accolade.
