INDIANOLA, Iowa – The No. 5/6-ranked Simpson College Storm won their eighth overall American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Women’s Basketball Automatic Qualifier Tournament in exciting fashion with a 62-59 win over the No. 18-ranked Wartburg Knights.
The Storm earned the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship that begins next weekend. Wartburg, with a strong NCAA at-large resume, hopes to get good news when the full field is announced Monday, February 28 at 2:30 p.m. (ET) on NCAA.com. Going into todays’ championship game, Simpson ranked first in Region IX while Wartburg was ranked fifth.
Simpson had two players in double digit figures, led by
Cameron Kincaid who recorded a double-double with game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds.
Cassie Nash added 14 points off the bench for the Storm.
The Knights had three players reach double-figures with
Brea Dillavou collecting 15 points. The second leading scorers were
Jaedon Murphy and
Hannah Anderson with 12 apiece. Dillavou and
Macy Harris were the leading rebounders for Wartburg.
The Storm, now 25-1 overall, will make their 13th trip to the NCAA tournament in program history. Wartburg, now 21-5 on the season, was playing in its fifth conference championship game in the last six seasons.
