Loras Men and Women Crowned 2022 American Rivers Conference Indoor Track & Field Champions

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras men and women capture team titles at the 2022 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Indoor Track and Field Championships.

With a final point total of 193 team points, the women of Loras College claimed the first indoor championship title in program history. Loras had 11 All-Conference Performers, including three relay teams. The Duhawks bested second-place Wartburg by a mere four points. The team title earned Loras Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year accolades. The Duhawks are led by head coach Matt Jones

Women’s Most Valuable Performer honors went to Loras’ Kassie Parker and Alyssa Pfadenhauer (Co-Track) and Grace Alley (Field). Parker earned conference titles in all the events she participated in: the 1 mile (4:58.63), 3,000 meter (9:42.59), and the 5,000 meter (17:20.81). Parker’s efforts earned the Duhawks 30 team points. Pfadenhauer scored 32 points for the Duhawks, placing first in the 400m dash (56.02) and 4x400m relay, second in the 200m (25.49), and third in the 60m (7.90). Alley scored a total of 27 points in the championships for Loras. She took the crown in the pentathlon (3365 points) and triple jump (11.79m), finished third in the high jump (1.61m), and finished eighth in the long jump (5.16m). 

On the men’s side, Loras won the team title for the fourth time in program history. Their most recent title was claimed in 2020. The Duhawks, led by head coach Jones, earned Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year. Loras compiled 179 total team points.­­­­­ Loras had 12 All-Conference Performers, including three relay teams.

For the second year in a row Wartburg’ Dallas Wright was voted Men’s Most Valuable Track Performer and Central’s Brock Lewis was named Men’s Most Valuable Field Performer. Wright placed first in all three events he competed in: 60m hurdles (8.15), 400m dash (48.11), and 200m dash (21.62). In the 200m dash, the senior broke the conference all-time record that was previously 21.62. Lewis scored 18 points for the Dutch after placing first in the long jump (7.30m) and second in the triple jump (13.91m).

Women’s Day 2 Highlights
  • Loras’ Grace Alley broke a facility record in the women’s triple jump to take the gold medal with a jump of 11.79m.
  • Loras senior Kassie Parker won her second event of the weekend, defending her 2021 title in the mile with a time of 4:58.63.
  • Maddie Moran of Nebraska Wesleyan broke her own facility record with a time of 7.67.
  • Elayna Bahl of Loras sprinted to her third first-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.91, breaking the facility record.
  • Loras’ Alyssa Pfadenhauer takes home the 400m title for the second year and broke the facility record after finishing with a time of 56.02.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan’s Reagan Janzen claims back-to-back titles in the 800m after a battle throughout the race with Wartburg’s Lily Campbell and Carson McSorely. Janzen finished with a time of 2:15.33.
  • Loras’ Marion Edwards and Alyssa Pfadenhauer go one and two in the women’s 200m dash after a tight battle with Wartburg’s Jackie Ganshirt. Edwards found the top of the podium with a time of 25.16.
  • Parker of Loras makes it three events won this weekend, winning the 3000m with a time of 9:42.59, breaking the championship record. 
  • Breya Christopher of Wartburg defended her 2021 high jump title and recorded a new championships record (1.70m) with a jump of 1.73m. 
  • Kaitlyn Wilder and Caroline Ferguson of Dubuque went one and two in the weight throw. Wilder edged out her teammate by 0.10 cm to claimed the conference title.
  • The Nebraska Wesleyan 4x800 relay team of Gabby Thomas, McKenna Marsh, Camryn Larsen and Reagan Janzen took home gold medals with a time of 9:30.11.
  • Loras’ Stevie Lambe, Elayna Bahl, Marion Edwards, and Alyssa Pfadenhauer set a new championship record (3:52.91) and claimed the gold medals with a time of 3:48.75.
Men’s Day 2 Highlights
  • Junior Cade Collier of University of Dubuque took the men’s weight throw title with a throw of 17.31m.
  • A facility record was broken by teammates Ryan Harvey and Wyatt Kelly Loras in the men’s one mile run. Harvey took home the title with a time of 4:09.11.
  • Loras’ Josh Smith defended his title in the 60m dash with a facility record breaking time of 7.86.
  • In the heptathlon, top three finishers were from Central College. Brody Klein edged out his teammate and the 2021 heptathlon champion, Lucas Heitz by 69 points.  
  • The top four finishers in the 60m hurdles broke the previous facility record. Wartburg’s Deyton Love and Dallas Wright battled it out for gold in the 60m hurdles. Wright took home the title with a time of 8.15 seconds.
  • Wright made it to the top of the podium once again defending his 2021 title with a time of 48.11.
  • Collecting his second medal of the meet, Mike Jasa was crowned champion in the 800m run for the second consecutive year with a time of 1:53.74.
  • Wright of Wartburg picks up this third title of the weekend, breaking his own conference all-time record in the 200m dash with a time of 21.62.
  • Joe Freiburger of Wartburg picks up his second gold medal at the A-R-C Championships, winning the 3000m with a time of 8:16.55. 
  • Central’s Drake Lewis takes home the gold medal in the high jump after leaping his way to 2.02m, edging out teammate Sam Beatty with less attempts.
  • The Central 4x800 team consisting of Kenny Cronin, Will DeHaan, Adam Sylvia, and Noah Jorgenson broke the championship record with a time of 7:52.15 and claimed the conference title. 
  • In the 4x400 relay, Loras’ Ted Kruse, Will Kieffer, Nate Sielaff, and Mike Jasa claimed first place in a dramatic fashion. The Duhawks moved up to first place in the last 50m after trailing substantially.
Women's Day 1 Highlights
  • For the first time in four years, the Pentathlon saw a new champion. Grace Alley of Loras claimed the title with a point total of 3,365. 
  • Dubuque’s Carrie Docherman found herself at the top of the podium in the pole vault for the second straight year, defending her 2021 title.
  • Loras’ Kassie Parker got the track events started at the A-R-C Indoor Championships in the 5,000m for the second consecutive year with a time of 17:20.81.
  • In the women’s long jump, University of Dubuque’s Emma Seipel claimed first place with a jump of 5.59m. 
  • Loras’ senior Elayna Bahl had the best prelim time in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.87. This time breaks the conference championship mark by 0.01 seconds.
  • NWU’s Maddie Moran set a new facility record and enters finals with the best prelim time of 7.72 seconds in the 60m dash.
  • The distance medley relay title went to Wartburg’s team of Ellie Osterberger, Stevie Lambe, Frankie Chaidez, and Valerie Herbest who ran it with a time of 12:17:24 after being the runner-up in 2021. 
  • In her last attempt, Rebecca Simpson of BVU took first place by 0.01m in the shot put with a toss of 13.87m.
Men's Day 1 Highlights
  • Central's Reid Pakkebier leads the heptathlon with 2619 total points with the final two events tomorrow.
  • It was Brock Lewis of Central who took the title in the long jump for the second straight year with a jump of 7.30m.
  • Shot put saw a new champion this year and it was Loras’ Holden Murphy who found himself at the top of the podium with a throw of 15.53m. 
  • The Duhawks’ Ryan Rogers clears 4.58m in the pole vault to defend his gold medal for the third year.
  • Joe Freiburger of Wartburg earned the gold medal and defended his 2021 title with a time of 14:49.18.
  • In the 60m hurdles, the top three finishers broke the facility record that was previously 8.27 seconds. It was Wartburg’s Dallas Wright who came out on top with the best prelim time of 8.21 seconds.
  • Josh Smith of Loras had the best prelim time in the 60m dash and broke the facility record with a time of 6.79 seconds.
  • In the distance medley, the top three finishers broke the facility record to close the out the running events. The Loras Duhawks’ team of Wyaat Kelly, Carson Vaske, Mike Jasa, and Ryan Harvey took the title with a time of 10:03.09.
