Donovan Corn of Luther Named A-R-C Wrestler of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Luther College wrestler Donovan Corn (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and University of Dubuque women’s basketball player Morgan Hawkins (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) have been named American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 18, 2022. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s basketball, and wrestling.
Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week18312
Morgan Hawkins, University of Dubuque
So., F, Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead
  • Hawkins brought the Spartans back from behind to grab a win over University of Northwestern (Minn.) over the weekend.
  • Dubuque playing only Northwestern on the week picked up a 59-53 win.
  • Finishing the contest with a double-double and near triple-double, the sophomore led Dubuque with 22 points, 14 rebounds, 6 steals, one assist, and one blocked shot.
  • She shot 50% from the field and went 4-for-7 from the line.
  • The Spartans improved their record to 7-4 on the season and are 3-1 in conference action so far.
  • Dubuque will be away from the court through the holidays but will return to action on December 29 when they host Rockford University at home.
  • The Dubuque native is earning her second-career Player of the Week accolade (11/28/22 and 12/19/22).

  • Corn led the No. 25-ranked Luther to a 4-0 day at the Gator “Boots” Duals in Nashville, Tennessee including an upset victory over No. 17 Alvernia University.
  • Luther defeated Alma College (56-0), No. 17 Alvernia University (24-9), Trine University (36-9), and York College of Pennsylvania (28-14) on Saturday.
  • The Chandler, Arizona native went 4-0 at 184 pounds, including three wins by fall, two of which occurred in under a minute.
  • Corn opened the day with a win by fall in 48 seconds over Alma’s Colin Fluharty and followed that with a 4-1 decision over Alvernia’s Isaac Kassis.
  • The Norse senior ended the day with two falls, the first over Trine’s Andrew Williamson (1:04) and the final bout over York’s Devan O’Dell (0:55).
  • The Norse are 5-2 overall and are back in action January 6th at the NWCA National Duals.
  • The senior from Luther is a two-time All-Conference performer and is earning A-R-C Wrestler of the Week honors for the second time in his career (1/17/22, 12/19/22).
Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week18449
Joshua Van Gorp, Central College
Jr., C, Pella, Iowa/Pella Christian
  • Van Gorp helped the Central College Dutch to a 70-58 victory over Cornell College to bring their win streak to five in a row.
  • The junior center recorded his fifth career double-double and second this season.
  • Van Gorp scored 26 points and added 11 rebounds in the victory over the Rams on Saturday.
  • In 31 minutes played, the Pella native shot 45% from the field and was 2-for-2 on his free throws.
  • The Central Dutch improved to 8-3 overall and remain a perfect 3-0 in league play heading into the new year.
  • Van Gorp is a 2021-22 Honorable Mention performer.
  • This is the Pella native’s second Player of the Week accolade of his career (12/5/22, 12/19/22).
