The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced today that Simpson College senior forward Cassie Nash (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) has been selected as the league’s Offensive MVP and Loras College senior midfielder Olivia Lansing (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption Catholic) was named Defensive MVP. Loras head coach Matt Pucci and Simpson head coach Jeremy Reinert and their staffs were voted American Rivers Co-Coaching Staff of the Year. In addition to the major awards, the conference announced the 22-member All-Conference Team.
 
Nash is earning her third All-Conference honor in addition to the MVP award. The senior forward becomes the first Simpson Storm member to receive Offensive MVP accolades. Prior to the MVP award being split to recognize an offensive and defensive standout in 2013, Simpson had four players named conference MVP. In 2022, Nash finished conference play with 31 points, coming by way of 14 goals and three assists, which put her at the top of the conference leaderboard. She was alone at the top of the leaderboard in total goals scored with 14.
 
Lansing joins teammate Payton McDonnell (2021) and former Duhawks, Taylor Trovato (2019), and Kinsey Campbell (2013) to have received Defensive MVP honors for Loras. The senior midfielder was part of a defensive unit that finished conference play without giving up a single goal. In addition to her defensive performance, Lansing recorded two assists.
 
The Loras coaching staff, headed by Pucci, was voted as the league’s Co-Coaching Staff of the Year. The assistant coaches for the Duhawks are Gretchen Schutz and Seth Kurzynski. The coaching staff has guided the Duhawks to a perfect 8-0 record in conference play and remain undefeated overall. Loras totaled a league best 92 points in their eight conference contests. Their goal total of 33 is second-best in the league, but they remain on top in assists with 26. The Duhawks claimed their second straight regular season and conference tournament titles. This is the 13th Coaching Staff of the Year award for the Loras program and Coach Pucci’s fourth as the head coach.
 
The Simpson coaching staff, headed by Reinert, was also selected as the league’s Co-Coaching Staff of the Year. The assistant coaches for the Storm include Mackenzie Dicken, Joe Waithanji, Francis Lee, and Chloe Wetzbarger. Simpson totaled 91 points on 34 goals and 23 assists during league play. Their goal total of 34 led the conference. This is the fourth Coaching Staff of the Year award for the Simpson program and Coach Reinert’s second as head coach.
 
Loras, winners of the 2022 American Rivers Conference regular season and conference tournament titles, saw six players named to the All-Conference team in addition to Lansing. 2021 A-R-C Defensive MVP and senior midfielder, Payton McDonnell (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator), picked up her fourth All-Conference accolade. She finished conference play with eight points on two goals and four assists. Libby Perry (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic) is a junior defender for the Duhawks. Perry earned a spot on the All-Conference team for the first time in her career. Both McDonnell and Perry were key elements in helping the Duhawks defense to no goals allowed all season long.
 
Abby Eriksen (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge), a senior forward for Loras was voted to the All-Conference team for the fourth time in her career. The Crystal Lake, Illinois native finished eight conference games totaling 12 points, coming off six goals. Ryleigh O’Brien (Hampton, Ill./United Township) is a senior forward for the Duhawks and led the team with 25 points during league play. The Hampton, Illinois native scored 10 goals and recorded 5 assists on the year. O’Brien is picking up her second All-Conference accolade. Junior Hannah Schmitz (Streator, Ill./Streator) rounds out the Duhawk field players earning All-Conference honors. Schmitz garnered six point this season on two goals and two assists. The Streator native is finding a spot on the All-Conference team for the first time in her career.
 
The goalkeeper for Loras, Kyndal Kells (Red Oak, Iowa/Red Oak), found the team for the first time in her career as a junior. She started in every conference contest, bringing her season record in league play to 8-0, including five shutouts and three combined shutouts. Kells recorded 18 saves in league play while facing 41 shots. The Red Oak native and the rest of the Duhawks defense did not allow a single goal all season.
 
American Rivers Conference regular-season runner-up, Wartburg Knights placed six players on this year’s All-Conference squad. Fifth-year midfielder/forward, Kate Luers (Middletown, Iowa/Danville) returned this year after earning the A-R-C’s Offensive MVP honors a season ago. Luers is now a four-time All-Conference honoree. She led the Knights this year with 19 points on seven goals and five assists. Joy Smith (Polk City, Iowa/Homeschooled) is picking up her fourth All-Conference recognition after picking up 11 points this season on four goals and three assists. Smith recorded three game winners in league play this season. Senior midfielder/forward, Katie Berglund (Polk City, Iowa/North Polk) made her way to the All-Conference team for the third time in her career. The Polk City native scored five goals and added one assist to bring her point total to 11 during league play.
 
On the defensive side for the Knights, fifth-year senior Sarah Campbell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) is picking up her fourth-career All-Conference honor in addition to being named 2020 A-R-C Defensive MVP. Campbell was a key contributor to the Knights holding opponents to just five goals all season. In addition, the Waverly native picked up two goals and two assists for a total of six points during league play. Senior midfielder, Gabby Corday (Denver, Iowa/Denver) is now a four-time All-Conference honoree. She recorded three assists on the season in addition to being a key member of the Knights defense holding opponents to five goals. Rounding out the All-Conference honorees for Wartburg is fifth-year goalkeeper, Marissa Lopez (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial). Lopez started all eight league contests, posting a record of 6-1-1. Lopez tallied 20 saves on 49 shots faced this season and recorded five shutouts. The Ankeny native posted a goal against average of .625 during the conference schedule.
 
Simpson had four players receive All-Conference honors in 2021 in addition to Nash earning Offensive MVP honors. Senior midfielder, Lizzie Arnburg (Earlham, Iowa/Earlham) found herself on the All-Conference team for the second-straight year. Arnburg was a key defender for the Storm who finished third in the league in goals against with 10. The Earlham native also recorded an assist this season. Earning her first All-Conference recognition is Hailey Kowzan (Pella, Iowa/Pella). The junior midfielder picked up seven points on one goal and five assists this season. For the second time in her career, Megan Roberts (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) found her way to the All-Conference team. Roberts had the second-most points on the team, only behind Nash. The senior midfielder/forward picked up 13 points on six goals and one assist. Rounding out the All-Conference honorees for the Storm is first year forward, Brissa Valadez (Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Lincoln). Valadez scored three goals and assisted on three to bring her season point total to nine.
 
Earning All-Conference for Luther are Maggie Haller (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) and Emma Lin (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt). Haller is a junior forward picking up her third All-Conference recognition. The Minneapolis native picked up 18 points on seven goals and four assists to lead the Norse this season. Lin found her way to the All-Conference team after earning honorable mention recognition a season ago. The junior midfielder was part of a strong Luther defense, allowing thirteen goals on the season, which is fourth-best in the league. In addition, Lin scored a goal and recorded an assist.
 
Grace Coates (Marion, Iowa/Marion) is picking up All-Conference recognition for the Central Dutch. The sophomore forward recorded nine goals and added an assist to bring her point total to 19 during league play. That put her tied for third in the league with 2.38 points per game. The Marion native is picking up All-Conference honors for the first time in her career.
 
The University of Dubuque Spartans saw Baylee Vincent (Algonquin, Ill./Harry D. Jacobs) pick-up her second All-Conference recognition. The midfielder accounted for two goals for the Spartans. Vincent was a contributor to the Spartan defense that finished the season with a 1.75 goals-against average.
