Wartburg Set to Host the First Round of the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA recently announced that the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) automatic qualifier, the No. 12 ranked Wartburg College Knights (10-0, 8-0 A-R-C) will host the No. 7 ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles (9-1, 6-1 WIAC) on Saturday, November 19. Kickoff from Walston-Hoover Stadium in Waverly, Iowa is scheduled for 12:00 PM Saturday.
 
The Wartburg Knights enter the 2022 NCAA Division III Football Playoffs after going 8-0 in conference play this season, and 10-0 overall. The Knights are coming off a 19-14 win at Coe College this past Saturday to claim the conference title outright and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Postseason. The Knights picked up two non-conference wins over Monmouth (34-7) and UW-Stout (27-0) to begin the 2022 campaign.
 
The Knights claimed the school’s 18th conference crown and are making their 14th appearance in the NCAA Football Playoffs. Second year head coach for Wartburg, Chris Winter, is leading the team to the first playoff appearance since 2019. The Knights are second in all Division III in scoring defense, allowing 61 points through 10 games. Wartburg is fifth in the country in total defense, allowing just 199.5 yards per game. The Knights also sit in eighth in all Division III in scoring offense as they are averaging 45.5 points per game.
 
Wisconsin-La Crosse earned a spot in the Division III Playoffs with an at-large bid. They are coming off a 31-10 win over Wisconsin-Platteville to end their regular season as co-champions of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Eagles are making their second-straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Playoffs and the 13th time overall.
 
The winner of this game will advance to the second round and face the winner of No. 6 Saint John’s (Minn.) and Northwestern-St. Paul on Saturday, November 26.
