Central, Simpson and Coe, Loras Set to Battle in A-R-C Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The quarterfinals of the 2021 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Women's Basketball Tournament saw victories by three of the top four seeds and one upset, setting the stage for the semifinals on Thursday, March 11. 

No.1 Simpson 94, No. 9 Luther 58
The tournament's top seed, Simpson College (9-0 OA, 8-0 A-R-C) took down ninth-seeded Luther (1-9 OA, 0-8 A-R-C) 94-58, punching their ticket to the semifinals. 

The Storm, ranked seventh in the latest D3hoops.com poll, were paced by Jenna Taylor, who put up 30 points and grabbed eight boards. Simpson had three other players reach double-digit scoring figures, Kia Rasmussen dropped 15 while Cameron Kincaid and Cassie Nash scored 13 each. Nash and Hattie Rhodes each brought down seven rebounds for the second-highest team totals. 

Luther's Calie Mundahl, Erin Saemrow, and Jordan Rube each scored 11 points. Saemrow recorded a double-double with the addition of 12 rebounds. 

No. 4 Central 57, No. 5 Dubuque 48
Central (6-3 OA, 5-3 A-R-C), who hosted their first conference tournament game in 20 years, defeated Dubuque (6-7 OA, 5-3 A-R-C) 57-48. 

Offensively the Dutch were led by Maci Gambell with 17 points. Also reaching double-digit point totals were Emily Hay (11) and Carson Fisk (10). Dominating the boards on both ends of the court was Payton Rogers, who tallied 18 total rebounds, 10 offensive and eight defensive. Hay also recorded a team-high six steals. 

Miah Smith led the way for Dubuque, picking up a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Tabria Thomas also reached double-digit rebounds with 10. 

The Storm of Simpson College will host the Central College Dutch in the semifinal round Thursday, March 11 with a 7:00 p.m. 

No. 6 Loras 71, No.3 Wartburg 63
The Loras College Duhawks (6-6 OA, 3-3 A-R-C) avenged their March 3 regular season loss to fourth-ranked (D3hoops.com) Wartburg College (13-3 OA, 6-2 A-R-C) with a 71-63 quarterfinal win, securing their spot in the semifinals. 

Loras had four players record double-digit scoring efforts, led by Madison Haslow with 16. Ashley Funk was the team's second leading scorer with 15, followed by Sami Martin with 12 and Sydney Schuler with 11. Funk and Haslow were the team's top two rebounders on the night, snagging nine and seven respectively. 

With 15 points, Jaedon Murphy led the Knights. Hanna Anderson and Kaitlyn Volesky each scored 12 for the second-highest totals. Ally Conrad hauled in seven boards to led the team. 

No. 2 Coe 73, No. 7 Buena Vista 52
The No. 2-seed Coe College Kohawks took down the No. 7-seed Buena Vista Beavers inside Kohawk Arena this evening 73-52. The Kohawks trailed by 10 early, but turned it on in the second quarter to cruise into the semifinals. Kohawk sophomore Molly Buck had a career-high 19 points to lead the Kohawks to a 21-point victory over the Beavers. In the Kohawk's victorious effort, Jackie Feldt added 18 points and Madeline Wilkins 15. With 10 rebounds Kaalyn Petersen paced Coe on the boards. 

Buena Vista had two players reach double-digit scoring totals, Olivia Larsen (24) and Megan Morenz (14). Larsen also led the Beavers in rebounds with nine. 

The Coe Kohawks and Loras Duhawks will square off in one of the semifinal games on Thursday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 

The winners of the two semifinal games will meet in the 2021 A-R-C Championship game Saturday, March 13 at the highest remaining seed’s home venue.
