WAVERLY, Iowa -- The Wartburg College men's track & field team captured the team title at the 2021 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday, March 7 at Hoover Fieldhouse on the campus of Wartburg College.
With a final point total of 172, the Knights recorded six individual titles and 15 All-Conference performances, including sweeping all three relays, on their way to picking up the program's 11th overall Indoor Track & Field team championship.
The team performance earned head coach
Marcus Newsom and his staff Men's Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
The Most Valuable Track Performer honor went to Wartburg sophomore
Christopher Collet (So., Verona, Ill./Seneca). Collet garnered 20 team points for the Knights, winning two individual events. The sophomore took the gold medals in both the mile (4:15.68) and 3,000-meter run (8:30.74).
The Most Valuable Field Performer accolade went to Central College's
Brock Lewis (Jr., Lathrop, Mo./Lathrop). Lewis took home two gold medals on the day, winning both the long jump (7.12m) and the triple jump (14.78m). His efforts tallied 20 team points for the Dutch, helping Central achieve a third-place team finish. His triple jump mark of 14.78 meters set a facility record, shattering the old record of 14.52 meters.

Men's Highlights
- The Wartburg Knights led the event with six individual titles.
- The Knights swept all three relay events, winning the DMR, 4x400, and the 4x800 races.
- Lucas Heitz of Central wins takes home the gold medal in the men's pentathlon, defeating Dutch teammate Jaxon Thompson by 118 points.
- Nebraska Wesleyan's Seth Knapp narrowly defends his weight throw title as he claims the gold medal with a toss of 16.70 meters, 0.01 meters better than second place.
- Brock Lewis of Central College shatters the facility record in the triple jump (14.52m) with a leap of 14.78 meters to make it back-to-back triple jump gold medals.
- Lewis collects his second gold medal of the day in the high jump for the Dutch, claiming the top spot on the podium with a 1.95m jump.
- Wartburg College took home the gold in the Distance Medley (Frosty Lorimer, Sean Henson, Carter Cruise, Sam Madson) with a time of 10:16.81.
- Joe Freiburger (Wartburg) set a Wartburg facility record in the 5,000-meter run en route to his gold medal with time of 14:25.87.
- The All-Conference finishers in the 60-meter dash all broke the existing championships record of 6.89, as Loras' Josh Smith took the gold with an impressive time of 6.83 seconds (0.04 seconds better than second and third place).
- In the 60-meter hurdles, again, the All-Conference finishers all broke the existing championships record with three impressive performances. Wartburg's Deyton Love takes home the gold medal with a time of 8.06 seconds.
- Christopher Collet of Wartburg College tops teammate Heinzman for the gold medal in the mile (4:15.68).
- Wartburg's Dallas Wright narrowly gets past NWU's Kyle Dickinson to stand atop the podium in the 400-meter dash (48.42).
- On his way to defending his 800-meter crown from a season ago, Mike Jasa (Loras) breaks the Wartburg facility record by 0.06 seconds with a time of 1:52.45.
- Wartburg's Derrick Smith broke yet another facility record on the day, this time taking the gold in the 200m dash with a dash of 21.76 seconds.
- Christopher Collet of Wartburg collects his second gold medal of the day, this time taking the top spot in the 3,000-meter run (8:30.74).
- Dubuque's Clayton Hahn wins the shot put title as the only competitor to eclipse 16 meters (16.11m).
- Brock Lewis of Central picks up his third gold medal of the afternoon after winning the long jump with a leap of 7.12 meters.
- Ryan Rogers of Loras clears 4.92 meters in the pole vault to defend his 2020 gold medal and sets a new championships record.
- The Wartburg 4x800 relay team of Matt Heinzmann, Frosty Lorimer, Sam Madson, Dalton Martin set a new championship and all-time conference record with the impressive mark of 7:46.78.
- Wartburg's 4x400 relay team collects gold medals by over a full second with a time 3:17.54, which is a championship record. The Knights' relay team consisted of Dallas Wright, Derrick Smith, Jensen Clapp, Wyatt Schmidt.
