CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Loras College track & field athletes
Mike Jasa (Fairfax, Iowa/Prairie) and
Grace Alley (Seneca, Ill./Seneca) have been named American Rivers Conference Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 12, 2021. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, and wrestling.
Female Athlete of the Week - Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Performer of the Week
Grace Alley, Loras College
So., Seneca, Ill./Seneca
- Loras competed at the Battle of the Bluff – Dubuque Championships on Saturday, Dec. 11, where the Duhawks finished second with 65 team points.
- Alley took home first place in the pentathlon with 3,531 points, breaking a school and conference record.
- Her pentathlon is ranked No. 2 nationally at the Division III level.
- Alley won the triple jump with a school record 11.82 meters, which sits third nationally.
- The sophomore set personal records in the long jump (5.32), high jump (1.61), and 60-meter hurdles (9.50).
- This is Alley’s first-career Women’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week honor.
Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Performer of the Week
Mike Jasa, Loras College
Sr., Fairfax, Iowa/Prairie
- The Duhawks won the Battle of the Bluff – Dubuque Championships on Saturday, Dec. 11 with 74 team points, defeating University of Dubuque and Clarke University.
- Jasa won the 800-meter run with both a school and conference record of 1:50.13.
- His time in the 800-meter run is the second-fastest time across all NCAA divisions this season.
- He defeated teammate Carter Oberfoell by a gap of 2.64 seconds.
- The Fairfax, Iowa native also anchored the 4x400 relay team that won the event with a time of 3:20.67, to rank the fastest time in Division III.
- This marks Jasa’s fourth Men’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week honor (12/13/21, 2/8/21, 2/3/20, 12/19/19).
Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Zane Neubaum, Buena Vista University
So., G, Rockwell City, Iowa/South Central Calhoun
- Neubaum helped lead the Beavers to a 2-0 week with victories over Nebraska Wesleyan (76-72) and Luther (64-46).
- He averaged 21.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game during the two conference games.
- Neubaum matched a career-high 27 points in the Beavers victory over Nebraska Wesleyan.
- The sophomore added 16 points in the win over Luther.
- On the week, Neubaum shot 64.0% from the floor.
- The Beavers improved to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in A-R-C play.
- Neubaum is a 2020-21 All-Conference performer.
- The Rockwell City, Iowa native is collecting his first-career Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolade.
Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week
Regan Freland, Simpson College
So., G, Prairie City, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe
- Freland helped lead the No. 12-ranked Storm to a 90-74 victory over No. 5-ranked Wartburg College.
- She shot 43.0% from the field and 38.5% from behind the arc.
- The sophomore recorded a career-high 23 points with 15 coming off three-pointers.
- Simpson improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
- The Prairie City, Iowa native is collecting her second-career Women’s Basketball Player of the week honor (12/13/21, 3/8/21).
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Performer of the Week
Marion Edwards, Loras College
Jr., Chicago, Ill./De la Salle Institute
- Loras competed at the Battle of the Bluff – Dubuque Championships on Saturday, Dec. 11, where the Duhawks finished second with 65 team points.
- Edwards won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.73, which currently ranks first at the NCAA Division III level.
- She was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.83, which ranks the second-fastest time nationally.
- She also raced in the 4x400-meter relay that the Duhawks won with a time of 3:58.91, which holds a two-second lead nationally.
- The Chicago, Ill. native is picking up her first-career Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week honor.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Performer of the Week
Ryan Rogers, Loras College
Sr., Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic
- The Duhawks won the Battle of the Bluff – Dubuque Championships on Saturday, Dec. 11 with 74 team points, defeating University of Dubuque and Clarke University.
- Rogers took home first place in the heptathlon with 5,272 points, setting a new program record and sitting atop the Division III leaderboard.
- His clearance of 4.84 meters in the pole vault is the second-best jump in Division III this season.
- Rogers’ long jump of 6.91 meters puts him 13th in the nation this season.
- The Dubuque, Iowa native won five of the seven events.
- Rogers is collecting his fourth-career Men’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week honors (12/13/21, 2/22/21, 3/2/20, 12/9/13).
Wrestling – Wrestler of the Week
Zarik Anderson, University of Dubuque
Gr., 157lbs., Rockwall, Texas/Heath
- The Spartans went 2-1 at the University of Dubuque Dan Daack Duals Saturday, Dec. 11.
- They defeated Schreiner University (44-6) and MSOE (50-4) and lost to Wabash College (28-12).
- Anderson earned a technical fall over Schreiner’s Nick Hammond (16-0).
- In the second dual of the day against MSOE, Anderson won by forfeit.
- In the last dual of the day for the Spartans, Anderson defeated Wabash’s Tyson Nisley by a 7-6 decision.
- The Rockwall, Texas native is a 2020 All-Conference honoree.
- This is Anderson’s first-career Wrestler of the Week honor.
