Ames, Iowa -- The University of Dubuque Spartans three-peated as American Rivers Conference Champions, finishing the event with a 7-stroke advantage over second-place Central (953-960). Wartburg finished in third-place ahead of Luther. That margin was 16 strokes (972-988) better than the Norse.

The Spartans had the lowest team rounds on Sunday and Monday. They were led by Madison Bowers, the school’s second low-medalist in consecutive years. Bowers found herself three strokes off the lead and tied for fifth entering the second round. She climbed into third-place after finishing round two with a 76. She fired a 74, lowest on the day, to finish with a three-day total of 231 (81-76-74) to claim the title of 2021 A-R-C Most Valuable Golfer.

Dubuque had three players record a top-10 finish. Brooke Bunjes finished as the runner-up with a score of 81-73-80-234. Bunjes had the lowest round of the entire tournament on Sunday (73). Kaylee O’Donnell finished ninth as a result of an eighth-place tie card back (84-76-82-242).

Wartburg’s Lauren Sease made a run today but finished just one stroke behind Bunjes. Sease’s final round 76 brought her three-day total to 235 (80-79-76). Teammate Ashley DeLong finished close-behind with a three-round total of 236 (78-76-82). She finished in fifth place due to a fourth-place tie card back. Aimee Hodges of Luther was the fourth-place finisher with a 236 (79-80-77).

Central had an outstanding tournament, placing four golfers in the top 10 and having the lowest team score on the final day (314). Mackenzie Biggs finished with a fifth-place 238 (82-78-78). Teammate Delaney Underwood was two-strokes behind with a 240 (81-80-79). Thea Lunning won the eighth-place card back and finished with a three-day total of 242 (81-82-79). Madison Clark took home the 10th-place medal with a 243.

Coe’s Megan Tanghe also finished in 10th-place finishing with a score of 243 (80-83-80).

The top-10 finishers make the A-R-C All-Conference team. Bowers made the all-conference team for the fourth time. Biggs, Bunjes, Underwood, DeLong, and Sease are now two-time performers.

The Coach of the Year, for the third-straight year, is Dubuque’s Dustin Bierman.

Dubuque earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship, which doesn’t take place until the spring. Woodland Country Club in Houston, Texas, will be the host venue May 10-13, 2022.
