Loras Men, Wartburg Women Crowned 2020 A-R-C Indoor Track & Field Champions

DECORAH, Iowa -- Loras men and Wartburg women capture team titles at the 2020 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Indoor Track and Field Championships.

With a final point total of 211, the women of Wartburg College claimed their second indoor title in the last three years. Wartburg had 18 All-Conference performers, including three relay teams. The team title earned Wartburg Women's Coaching Staff of the Year accolades. The Knights are led by head coach Marcus Newsom.

Women's Most Valuable Performer honors went to Loras' Kassie Rosenbum (Track) and Terrianna Black (Field). Rosenbum earned conference titles in all the events she participated in: the 1 mile run (5:04.75), the 3,000 meter (10:13.23), and 5,000 meter (17:25.88). Rosenbum's efforts earned the Duhawks 30 team points. Black also scored 30 points for Loras with first place finishes in the long jump (5.55) and the triple jump (11.76). Her triple jump set a facility record at Luther College's Regent Center. Her 55 meter dash time of 7.13 finished second and garnered eight Duhawk points. She also gained two team points with a seventh place finish in the 200 meter dash (26.06) and recorded a championship record in the prelims of the 55 meter dash (7.11). 

On the men's side, Loras won the team title for the first time since 2007 with 161 points. Loras bested second-place Wartburg by a mere 14 points to win the program's second outright team title. The Duhawks, led by head coach Matt Jones, earned Men's Coaching Staff of the Year. Loras had 13 All-Conference performers, including three relay teams.

For the second year in a row Loras' Patrick Mikel was voted Men's Most Valuable Track Performer and Loras' Ryan Rogers picked up his first indoor Most Valuable Field Performer honor. Mikel recorded 28 points for Loras, picking up conference titles in the 200 meter (21.74), 400 meter (47.90); setting conference all-time bests in both events. He broke his own 400 meter record (47.93) set at the Indoor Championships last year. The senior also ran the first leg of the winning 4x400 (3:16.95) relay that broke the conference championships record of 3:20.34. Rogers earned conference titles in the long jump (7.15m) and pole vault (4.44m). He also finished fifth in the high jump (1.97m). The junior also ran one track event, winning the 55 meter hurdles (7.68). In total, Rogers earned 34 points for the Duhawks en rooute to their first Indoor Championships title in eight years.

Women's Day 2 Highlights
  • Loras' Terrianna Black broke a facility record in the women's triple jump to take the gold medal with a jump of 11.76m.
  • Loras junior Kassie Rosenbum won her second event of the weekend, winning the mile run with a time of 5:04.75. 
  • Gabrielle Noland of Loras broke the conference championship record in the 55m dash to claim the title with a time of 7.05 seconds. 
  • Elayna Bahl of Loras sprinted to a 8.39 60 meter hurdle time to earn the first-place finish.
  • Loras's Noland breaks her third record of the weekend, running a time of :56.35 to take home the top finish in the women's 400m, breaking the facility record (57.06). 
  • After finishing third in the mile run, Central's Mari Stein claims the gold medal in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 2:17.42. 
  • Dubuque's Alison Beeman tops her own nation leading time in the 200m (24.49) and the conference championships time (24.92) with a 24.47 to win her second-consecutive title. 
  • Rosenbum of Loras makes it three events won this weekend, winning the 3000m with a time of 10:13.23. 
  • The Wartburg 4x800 relay team of Carson McSorley, Natalie Fober, Moriah Morter, Belle Tyynismaa took home gold medals with the time of 9:32.88. 
  • Dubuque's 4x800 relay team sets a new facility record (3:56.17) and claims the gold medals with a time of 3:54.40. The Spartans team consisting of Olivia Costly, Heather Muntz, Abigail Smith, and Alison Beeman
  • Wartburg first-year Breya Christopher claims the high-jump gold medal at her first career A-R-C Indoor Track & Field Championships with a mark of 1.66m.
  • Kennedy Morris of Central takes home the gold medal in the weight throw with a distance of 17.68m.
Men's Day 2 Highlights
  • Sophomore Seth Knapp of Nebraska Wesleyan took the men's weight throw title with a throw of 17.40m. 
  • The men's one mile run was a tightly contested event, as Wartburg's Ryan Dalton took the top finish with a time of 4:19.05. 
  • Loras' Josh Smith barley beats out teammate Patrick Mikel for the gold medal in the 55m dash with a time of 6.49.
  • Sam Adeniyi of Simpson claims the men's heptathlon with a final point total of 4,667, defeating last year's champion by 91 points.
  • Loras' Ryan Rogers claims his third gold medal of the weekend, as he defends his title in the men's 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.68 seconds. 
  • Patrick Mikel of Loras ran a 47.90 to break his own NCAA Division III leading time (48.53) in the 400m to win his third-consecutive title in the event. 
  • Loras' Mike Jasa was crowned champion of the 800m with a time of 1:52.97 breaking a facility record (1:54.69). He currently holds the second best time in the country in the event. 
  • Mikel of Loras picks up his third title of the weeked, breaking a conference all-time record (21.82) with a time of 21.74.
  • Joe Freiburger of Wartburg picks up his second gold medal at the A-R-C Championships, winning the 3000m with a time of 8:33.70.
  • Central's Drake Lewis put on a show on the field, leaping his way to 2.09m to take home the gold medal in the high jump. 
  • The Loras 4x800 relay team broke the facility record (7:57.22) en route to capturing the title with a time of 7:53.75. The team consisted of Carter Oberfoell, Cole Conklin-Little, Wyatt Kelly, and Mike Jasa
  • The Duhawks follow up with the 4x400 relay title (Patrick Mikel, Shamari Scott, Josh Smith, Tyson Morrison), breaking the conference championships record (3:20.34) with a time of 3:19.68. 
Women's Day 1 Highlights
  • For the third year in the row, Central's Mary Gray and Kiki Pingel went 1-2 in the women's pentathlon. Gray, a junior, is now a three-time pentathlon champion. She won this year's title with a point total of 3,229. 
  • NWU's Maddie Tolly made it three-straight titles in the women's pole vault. She won this year's title with a height of 3.36m. 
  • Loras' Gabrielle Noland had the best prelim time in the 55m dash with a time of 7.01. The time breaks a conference all-time record, breaking her own record of 7.02.
  • In the women's long jump, Loras' Terrianna Black picked up the gold medal with a leap of 5.55m.
  • NWU's Dayton Dolincheck remained at the top of the podium in the shot put, breaking a facility record toss of 14.14m. The toss topped her gold medal performance from last year (14.03m). 
  • Loras' Kassie Rosenbum got the track events started at the A-R-C Indoor Championships with a title in the 5,000m. She crossed the finish line with a time of 17:25.88 after being the runner-up in 2019. 
  • The distance medley relay title went to Nebraska Wesleyan, who ran it with a time of 12:23.50 and beat Wartburg by .01 seconds. The relay team consisted of Madi Bahe, Camryn Larsen, Raegan Janzen, and Ellie Beiermann
Men's Day 1 Highlights
  • For the second straight year, Wartburg swept the All-Conference awards in the 5,000m. Junior Joe Freiburger earned the gold medal with a time of 15:02.43. 
  • The men's shot put gold medal went to a Clayton Hahn of Dubuque with a heave of 15.58m. 
  • For the second straight year, the pole vault title went to Loras' Ryan Rogers, who cleared a height of 4.44m. 
  • Through four events in the heptathlon, Sam Adeniyi of Simpson leads the field with 2,726 points. 
  • Loras' Rogers picked up his second title of the day in the long jump, leaping 7.15m. 
  • The Loras Duhawks Distance Medley team of Cole Conklin-Little, Patrick Mikel, Mike Jasa, and Luke Guttormson crossed the line in 10:23.63 to take the goal medal.
